Since the early days of photography, people have been fascinated by the ability to capture moments in time and space with their cameras. Other notable early astronomers include Jonas Salk (1904-1994), who developed vaccines against polio; Robert Goddard (1847-1935), who created America's first successful rocketry program; undiscovered scientist Halley’s Comet; Charles Darwin (1809-1882), who helped develop theory about evolution; Alfred Wegener (1860-1929), who theorized about continental drift; Jules Verne (Jules Verne) (Jules Laforet) wrote science fiction stories set within our own world - some still being read today! During World War II, local residents played important roles in supporting military campaigns including helping build airfields and ammunition dumps as well as supplying food and water supplies to troops stationed nearby. Many individuals also took up careers in industry or government service during wartime - many leading scientists did so from Augusta because finding new technologies allowed them to combat various adversaries on two fronts simultaneously! On July 4th, 1960, General Electric Corporation (GE) moved its headquarters from Newark Delaware to Auburn Junction Massachusetts when GE merged with Westinghouse Electric Company (WEC). At GE's request, all federal regulations regarding electric light were repealed so that GE could build more powerful nuclear plants without fear of government interference. This move helped spur economic growth in both towns while also creating jobs for many local residents who had been employed at GE's previous locations around New England.

During this time period, Augustus also experienced rapid growth due to an influx of immigrants from all around America looking for work on ships sailing up and downthe Atlantic Ocean because no one was hiring during the Civil War years due to prohibition laws enacted by Congress). During World War I, many businesses including flour mills closed due to lack of production; however, Augustus remained unaffected because so few people lived there then either working in agriculture or manufacturing (There are still few factories outside of Portland). Augustus experienced its biggest economic boom ever thanks to munitions manufacturing which grew rapidly during World War II thanks largely to Allied victory over Nazi Germany (At that time almost all weapons made were produced here). In 1950-1951 alone it manufactured more than $2 million worth of products! Throughout much of this time period Main Street ran along both sides of sandy beaches while inland sections consisted mostly high-rise buildings housing various firms such as Pillsbury Brothers Cereal Corporation which made frozen pizza doughnuts) In recent decades there have been several attempts by developers interested in expanding onto adjacent land into downtown areas but no success has yet been achieved despite billions spent on redevelopment plans throughout town since 2000-2004 which included revamping Main Street corridor from Commercial Boulevard northward through residential neighborhoods eastward; replacement/updates/refurbishment/new construction projects totaling nearly $100 million statewide Despite these efforts some aspects such as transportation are remaining challenging including limited access via bike or carpooling even though Mayor Donahue has pledged significant investments into bicycle infrastructure The economy has been slowly recovering since 2007 with new job openings reported every month but median wages remain relatively low especially compared with neighboring towns such as Lewiston where median incomes are higher than those found here Augusta is currently experiencing an increase number opioid related overdoses although Mayor Donahue attributes this trend mainly to illegal drug trafficking rather than any specific problem within our community

Augusta played host to many events during World War II including the Battle of Normandy which took place nearby on July 6th 1944; also known as D-Day (June 6th 1944) After World War II, Augusta experienced growth due to its importance as an agricultural center for southern Maine and its location on Penobscot Bayou between Lewiston and Portland made it an attractive location for businesses such as General Motors Corporation (GM) headquarters from 1955-1968 and then Nortel Networks Headquarters from 1968-1997 before being sold to Cisco Systems Incorporated (Cisco).
