During that visit he stopped at one of Augustus' mills where he found raw cotton waiting to be processed into cloth items for export to Europe. This event helped spur development within Augustus and subsequent expansions occurred throughout the years following Washington's visitfueled by increased demand for goods from Europe due to growing industrialization in those regions).
