In 1830, the magazine moved from its original location on High Street into what is now known as Magna Carta Hall. It continued publishing until 1865 when it moved again - this time to what is now called State House Square. In 1850, another group of men met around a fire at State House Square and decided that they needed a way for people in town to get their hands on guns without breaking the law. They named themselves the 'Gun Club' and started publishing their own journal called 'The Rifleman'. The club continued publication until 1895 when it merged with another magazine located in Boston (the 'Bulletin Board'). Today, both magazines are still published regularly by their respective owners (the Magazine Publications Group). Overall, then, Augusta has had an ongoing connection with firearms since its establishment more than 180 years ago! What makes this connection even stronger is that many of our favorite shooting memories were made while we were perusing either of those venerable publications...or simply reading about old times while sitting across from our friends at a pub or restaurant!

Augusta, Maine is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. Augusta is the site of the annual Augusta Festival and Music Festival which features early music, Jazz and Blues performances by local bands and an art fair. It is also home to the Augusta Heritage Museum which exhibits artifacts from throughout Augusta's history. The first Europeans to visit what is now Augusta were traders and missionaries who traveled along the coast of Maine in search of new land to settle. In 1609 Jacques Cartier called near present-day Augusta Bay "the most fertile country on earth." After several more voyages during that century, there was finally a permanent European settlement in what is now Penobscot County when Samuel de Champlain built Fort St John on the banks of the Penobscot River in 1614. The following year English colonists arrived with their own scheme to colonize new land in what are today Penobscot and Somerset Counties: James I granted 10 acres (4 ha) for every 100 acres (40 ha) purchased from Native Americans; these grants were known as "grants of prefix". By 1700 there were over 350 British settlers living in present-dayPenobscot County. In 1782–83 Captain John Byron set out from Sackville Plantation on Herring Island with command of a small force under Lieutenant Colonel George Monckton to explore possible sites for a military post on Kennebec River Valley between Portland and Brunswick. On July 26, 1782 he discovered Cape Raymonde (now part of Falmouth), naming it after himself but leaving it unoccupied because no suitable site had been found for such an important outpost within his allotted territory; this event helped spur development nearby at Bangor as well as establishment of primary schools in Bangor Township and elsewhere throughout Penobscot County. In 1802 Major General William Prescott ordered construction begun on Cumberland Roadstead just north of present-day downtown Augusta – later renamed Main Street – becoming one of many major roads connecting Boston with New England through western Maine since Wayfarer's Day gift from King George II had given American farmers access to fresh supplies permanently available only east of Quebec City.
