It is with great sadness that we report the passing of one of our most beloved members, shooter ear plugs history in Auburn, Maine, Dave McGill. Dave was a stalwart member of the society and had an impact on many aspects of the group. He was also a very talented musician and enjoyed playing guitar at club functions. We will miss him deeply. Dave's life began in 1975 when he joined the US Army as a Private. After serving his time, he returned home to join the music industry where he worked for over 25 years as an audio engineer and mixer with various recording companies throughout New England. In addition to his work in audio engineering, Dave also played guitar and sang backup vocals for numerous bands during this time including The Exploited (1978-1981), The Fuzztones (1982-1988), The Buzzcocks (1989-1990) and more recently Wacoal (1996-1998). In 2002, after many years of retirement from the music industry, Dave rejoined the community as a volunteer firefighter in Auburn. Over the years he has officiated many FireFest events and always made sure to have some fun while helping out! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him!

Auburn was first settled by English settlers in 1786. The name Auburn comes from the word "auburn" which means white flower or Haystack Mountain in British Sign language. The first post office in Auburn was established on December 15, 1811, and served for one year. In 1812, the town received its charter from the Maine General Assembly and became a town under the jurisdiction of Cumberland County. The present day courthouse was built in 1922 and is used as a museum today.
