AUBURN LOCATION: According to most reports launched early this century (and even older directories), what is now known as "Auburn" actually started out smaller - just east of present day Bangor on Road 128 / highway 368 - named for General John Mitchell who served during Thomas Jefferson's term as President before moving westward along I-95 towards Portland starting in 1785 (the first post office opened at what is now called Waterville).
CENTER OF THE TOWN: This original location - right where US HWY 128 crosses Route 368 - gradually shifted over time due largely to growth along I-95 & later US Hwy 101 until...well until everything got really big around 2000 when I-95 pretty much subsided & plowed straight through here like some kindof prehistoric bulldozer blade...& we've kinda stuck with where we started + grew up ever since! currently occupying all or most every nook & cranny between HWY 128/HR 368 & Waterville Rd misdemeanors tend not too mentionable except for maybe occasional heat waves
