AUBURN VILLAGE - Name Change from Auburn Town to Auburn Village on December 1st 1912 In 1916, the first electric light came into use in Auburn when two Edison lamps were installed by Mrs. Tilton Howe along with three wires leading from her home across Main Street to Old Home School House on Prospect Avenue where they connected together overhead creating one string of lights that run along Prospect Avenue all night long! This led directly to the growth of downtown Auburn which today features 12 businesses including four banks (One Wells Fargo, One TD Ameritrade, One Regions Bank) as well as several restaurants and bars along main streets fronting Prospect Avenue with streetlights dotting each block throughout downtown giving it a lively atmosphere all night long! Downtown also has an amphitheater which can seat up to 300 people for concerts or other events! Today there are also new buildings being erected such as apartments/condos (including two high rises), a library addition complete with reading room/loft/gift shop/conference center and more... making downtown one of the most vibrant areas around!

Auburn, Maine is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,876 at the 2010 census. Auburn is one of two towns in Penobscot County that are both located on the Canadian side of the border. Auburn was first settled by English settlers in 1768 and then by French colonists in 1769. The first post office in Auburn was established in 1805. In 1828, Auburn Merchants Association Post Office moved to its present location. The community of Auburn was incorporated as a town on November 12, 1912 and named for Auburn University (now known as the University of Maine). On July 1, 1916, the town gained city status and changed its name to Portland. Portland had been a rural community until it became an urban center after World War I when manufacturing boomed and people began moving into new homes there from larger cities across America. After World War II ended however rurality returned with several thousand residents coming out of retirement to live near rivers and lakes while small businesses grew around service industries like fishing and tourism which continue to thrive today. According to the 2000 census., there were 2,914 people residing in Auburn without any dependent children under age 18 living with them; this number decreased to 2,792 at the 2010 census due largely to decreases among families living below poverty lines since 2000 while also seeing an increase among residents over 65 years old due largely to increased life expectancy rates within those age groups nationally throughout that decade- making Auburn one of oldest communities in New England if not North America!
