Auburn, Maine is a town in Hancock County, Maine. The population was 1,738 at the 2000 census. Auburn is located on the south bank of the Penobscot River. The town bounds the community of Auburn on the north and east. Auburn was founded in 1828 by Capt. Elijah Morse and his family as a small stone trading post on the southern border of Hancock County while still part of Quebec. It was named for General John Purdy, who had led British forces during the American Revolution and helped to secure Quebec's independence from Great Britain. The first school in Auburn was built in 1835 by Rev. Nathaniel Hawthorne and opened to students in December that year. In 1865, when Maine became a state it included what are now parts of Hancock and Cumberland counties; Auburn became part of Cumberland County with its incorporation date November 3, 1865. In 1872, two men- James Page (a fur trader) and Abram Brown (a contractor) bought land adjacent to present day Auburn from Captured Enemy Indian Chief Joseph Tarrant for $4 per acre which formed the nucleus for what would become one of America's largest cotton farms - Buffalo Bill Cotton Estate today known as "Brownsboro". Brownstown would eventually encompass over 178 acres including current day Auburn but only about 10% remains today due to development restrictions imposed by local government planners over fears that much important agricultural history could be lost if any significant portions were preserved or developed beyond their original boundaries

It had a capacity of 4K and was used in a research paper by his team at MIT. The next year, 1970, Gordon Bell designed and built the first electronic computer using transistors instead of vacuum tubes. This machine was called “Bell’s Computer” and it could handle about 2 million calculations per second (CPS). In 1975, Seymour Susser developed an improved type of transistor known as an FET (field effect transistor). This allowed computers to have much higher capacities than before. By 1978, all computers were using digital storage devices called ROMS (read only memories), which could hold up to 8K of data. However, there was still a lot of room for improvement sinceROMS were limited in their read/write performance. Finally, in 1979 chip manufacturers started building high capacity chips named after mathematical constants such as Extended Data Rate (EDR) or Ultra-High Speed Memory (UHSM). These chips had a maximum read/write speed of 350 MHz and could hold up to 256K of data. As these high capacity chips became more common, they began to impact the way we use computers today. For example, most websites now use RAM instead of ROMs because RAM is much faster when it can be accessed quickly; however, ROMs are still occasionally used on some older machines because they are cheaper to purchase and maintain than RAM

In 1886, Auburn got its first telephone line; it would be followed by cable in 1900. during World War II most residents worked at various munitions factories located nearby; however, many residents also engaged in farming or forestry until after 1990s when those activities began to decline due to environmental degradation brought about by climate change and other factors

Auburn was founded in 1824 by farmers who surveyed and laid out the town on land that they donated to the government. It was named for General James A. Hardee, an American general during World War I who served as military governor of Canada.
