In 1907, GOA organized a national meeting in Niagara Falls, New York where they presented a model for an American firearm hat designed by Captain Edward Cushing Smith. This new hat became known as the “Captain Cushing Hat” and has been worn by Americans ever since. In 1911, GOA organized another national meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana which introduced another new type of firearm hat- the “Eagle Hat”. The Eagle Hat had a metal frame with a cloth band around its circumference that held the headgear together at one side. These hats were worn by infantrymen during World War I and II because they offered protection from rain or snow while on duty. Auburn, Maine is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,060 at the 2010 census. Auburn is located on the Saco River and is part of the Portland metropolitan area. It lies about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of downtown Portland and 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Bangor. The first people to live in Auburn were the Menominee Indians who populated what is now Penobscot County in 1795-1800. They were followed by Tamarack Indians in 1802-1803 and finally by the Acadians in 1834. In 1836, when Canada acquired Maine as part of her North American possessions, Auburn became part of Cumberland County and was known as Easton until it merged with Penobscot County in 1861. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Jubal Early attempted to cross the Saco River into Canada at Auburn but was thwarted by Union forces under General William Tecumseh Sherman. The town soon after became an important shipping point for munitions shipments from Canada to the Confederacy. In 1955, Representative Julius Ewing Jr., then a Democrat from Augusta who represented much of eastern Maine including Auburn, introduced House Bill 4346 which would have created a regional school board for eastern Maine schools instead of having one statewide board like it currently exists. The bill failed to make it out of Committee but did receive some support from Reporters’ Club member Bob Henniker who later served as Mayor of Auburn from 1992-1996 and then again from 2001-2003; he also chaired Senate District 16 from 2003-2007 before retiring at age 70 effective January 1st 2008. As late as 2007 there was still talk about giving back east Maine’s statehood to its rightful place within New England. On May 3rd 2007 Governor James DeBlasio signed House Bill 4346 into law making eastern Maine’s Regional School Board effective starting July 1st 2007. This move solidified Auburn's status within southeastern New England; prior to this time many thought that along with other cities such as Fall River and Machiasburg annexed by Rhode Island since they had no vote or representation on their local boards. With its new status came increased development opportunities given that funding for education isn't typically available commensurate with population growth rates throughout New England so new businesses are often forced to open up shop near larger towns while smaller communities lose out on opportunity because they can only offer servicesato those living closeby or unableto buildout plausible extensions onto their properties which limits their access to basic needs such as Roads & bridges etc.
