Zachary, Louisiana is located in the U.S. state of Louisiana and lies within the Parish of Zachary. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. In 1781, French colonists founded a small community here called Pineville on the banks of the Union River. This community grew to become Zachary after Captain Pierre Laclède arrived in 1785 from Quebec to survey the land here. Laclède named this place for his friend and fellow explorer, Major Jacques Marquette, who had explored this area two years earlier. The first ammunition production in Zachary took place in 1856 when A&P Ammunition Company began manufacturing artillery rounds there. The company moved its operations to New Orleans two years later and continued producing rounds there until 1959 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester-Winchester Corporation. There are still a few buildings remaining from A&P Ammunition Company’s heyday in Zachary including an old plant building that still stands today and a museum which tells the story of ammunition production here over time.

Zachary, Louisiana was the birthplace of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1881. The company started making rifles and shotguns here in 1866, and these firearms became known as "Winchester Model 1887." The first Winchesters were made at the old adobe mill on Wilkinson Boulevard in Zachary. The town's population grew rapidly after incorporation in 1868, so much so that a new mill was built on Blake Street just east of Wilkinson Boulevard. By 1886, Winchester had outgrown its original facilities and began manufacturing products statewide. In 1903, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form what is now American Outdoor Brands Incorporated (AOBC).

The Broussard family was originally from Quebec. They immigrated to Louisiana and started a grocery store in Zachary. In 1915, they moved their business to Baton Rouge and changed their name to The General Store. The store continued to be operated by the Broussard family until 1959 when they sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Laddie Colbert who operated it until 1979 when it went out of business again. In 1984, the store reopened as an outlet for Sears Roebuck & Company after being closed for several years. It continued to be open as an outlet until 1998 when it closed again due to economic reasons. In 2018, Zachary had its centennial celebration which included various events such as a parade and festival. There were also several reports that suggested that the store may close down if things don't improve soon for the townspeople who rely on it for income. Overall, there seems to be some concern about how this might affect the community since businesses like these can provide much-needed employment and support local economies while also providing services like groceries or clothing stores that are necessary for many residents of rural communities across America - something that Zachary evidently cannot hope to replicated given its limited resources even if it wanted To do so given its long history (relative speaking) of decline (in terms of both stature within its own community as well as statewide standing).

Zachary is a town in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 5,768 at the 2010 census. Zachary is a small town that experienced some growth and contraction during the 20th century. The first settler in Zachary was John Denton who arrived in 1821. In 1836, the town had only 6 residents and was platted as part of what would become Rapides Parish. The citizens of Zachary petitioned to be moved from their current location because they didn't want to see any more development near them on their rural land which they felt wasn't being used properly by the people living there. On February 17, 1839, with 4 residents present including John Denton and his wife Sarah (née Allred), the Town Crier announced that "Zachary has been granted incorporation into this parish". In 1850-1851, Zachary had 11 residents when it became part of Jefferson Parish; however, due to post-Civil War Reconstruction policies which favored white over black citizens, these numbers decreased until 1870 when it reached 3 residents again due to an increase in cotton production in nearby Thibodaux County. During World War II most of the buildings were destroyed bybombing but many are still standing today such as Old Mill #2 & 3 which are now operated as a bed and breakfast inn called Homenage Heritage Inn & Spa located off US 190 just east of I-10 Exit 221A (exit 5) access road for drivers travelling through Rapides Parish side roads exit from I-10 going southbound approximately 8 miles north of New Orleans Offices Of The Lighthouse Authority).
