As part of this merger, all but three members (the mayor and councilors) of the original Westwego Township were also elected to serve on the new city council; these residents still reside in their individual wards within Shreveport-Bossier City proper although they are now considered citizens thereof. The remaining residents (those living outside the newly merged borders) continue to be represented by elected officials within either annexation or adjacent Livingston Parish depending on their voting habits within that jurisdiction during any given year).
