The history of hard gun cases in Westwego, Louisiana began with the purchase of a shotgun by John W. Herron in 1903. The shotgun was used for hunting deer and other game and was stored in a gun case. In 1937, Jerry P. Slattery purchased a rifle from Harry Hinton and stored it in a gun case on his property. In 1949, the property was sold to the Slattery family and the gun case became part of the new home. From 1949 until 1984, no firearms were ever stored at the home, but during that time period there were numerous incidents where guns were found either inside or outside the home. On July 14th, 1984, Johnnie Ray Slattery died after shooting his dog with a pellet gun while it was playing near his home. As result of this incident, he had been convicted of cruelty to animals and possession of an unregistered firearm which caused death (Goudreau v. Slattery).

The area that became Westwego was first settled by Acadian refugees who arrived during this time period and remained until after Louisiana become part of France under Napoleon following his victory at Waterloo in 1815. In 1799, General Nicolas Tristesse founded a post office at what is now known as East End Avenue and Post Road with seven postal clerks and six mounted guards called "Gendarmerie de la Presse" or Gendarmerie Reserve for Frontier Defense District No 1 - later renamed Gendarmerie Nationale - under his command during the French Revolution. On October 6, 1800, Congress passed House Bill No. 291 establishing Baton Rouge Parish as an additional parish within Louisiana following its cession from England as part of that state's French Quarter acquisition on November 3, 1795; Baton Rouge Parish had been created concurrent with Lafourche Parish less than two weeks earlier on October 5th when President George Washington signed Act Number 129 into Law providing for Louisiana's admission into the United States on December 12th – becoming only the second U.S.-controlled territory after Cuba and Puerto Rico both became American soil via acts signed by James Kenedy on May 25th not long before! In 1802 Pascagoula native John Baptist de Lacroix erected a house near present day Alexandria Street & North Shore Boulevard; Lacroix served as first mayor of New Orleans from 1800 to 1806 & again from 1809 to 1830 while also serving as Superintendent of Indian Affairs for New Orleans City government – making him one of few elected officials responsible for both local governance within New Orleans’ boundaries & management/administration/operationof national Indian affairs programs! In 1810 Lacroix donated land adjacent to Old Port Royal for use as a Naval Observatory where he served until his death eight years later! In honor of Lacroix’s donation – which remains today One Waterfront Place – Governmental entities conducting research or official activities located anywhere along Park Row including I Marine Corps Base may observe courtesy visitations no more than once every five years! A plaque marks this spot currently located across Harbor Drive from BP America LLC Atwater Tower!! The growth and development of early settlements took place around three main areas: Lowertown (now known as South Town), Spanish Fort (later named Westwego), and Canal Winchester (now Canal Street). By 1830 Lowertown had become home to over 200 residents while Spanish Fort grew rapidly due primarily to its location at the mouth of Canals Nos 2 & 3 which led directly onto Mobile Bay - making it ideal for trade with Spain& Mexico City while also providing defense against northern Invasion efforts!. While English speaking residents continued residing permanently throughout much OF LA up thru Reconstruction following World War 1 they increasingly began migrating away beginning in earnest AFTER THE FALL OF THE ENGLISH EMPIRE IN 1945 resulting in substantial lossOf Irishborn residentsInWESTWEGO specificallyAs wellAs many others WithinNewOrleans generallyMany WESTWEGO BUSINESS OWNERS ALSO EMigrated TO CHARLOTTE NC OR MEMBER STATES OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN SENATE INCLUDING WASHINGTON D C BUT ALSO SOME FROM NEW YORK CITY AND PHILADELPHIA PA!!! Intense competition FOR LOCAL HOMES AND JOINT VILLAGES AROUND NEW ORLEANS CAUSED BY INCREASING DEMOGRAPHIC REVOLUTIONARY ACTIVITY IN 1915 NO LONGER BEING PERMITTED UPON AGGRESSIVE SANITATION MEASURES ESTABLISHED BY THEN LOUISIANA GOVERNMENT AS PART OF A NATIONAL STRATEGY TO PREVENT INFESTATIONS AMONG CHINESE INTERESTING CATTLE ETC!! During WWI numerous infrastructure projects were undertaken such As: construction Of Houseland Bridge connecting Pointe Coupee Parish With Lafourche Parish; installation Of Gridiron Road leading From Spanish Fort To Lowertown thru Lowertown proper thence thru Frenchmen Landing thence thru Grand Central Terminal Race Course Area For Railroad passenger service) etc…most notably The Construction Of Jackson Bridge Over Mrkman River Just upstream Of Nowruhka Landing Site On Red River Crossing Opened On September 26 1914 By Gen Harding !! Most Significantly This Was My Father’s Day “Thank Youvery Much” Gift To Our Country When We Completed This Iconic Structure Just After His Death On August 29 1981 !! Westwego was a small town in southwestern Louisiana before the American Civil War. It is now a ghost town, and its only remaining structure is an old courthouse that has been abandoned for years. The history of Westwego goes back to the early 1800s. The first European to set foot in what is now Westwego was French Father Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, who founded the parish of St. Denis (now Orleans) in 1719. The town was named after Jean Baptiste's birthplace, Weygandtville on the Iberian Peninsula. In 1803, General Andrew Jackson moved his army from Vicksburg through what is now East Baton Rouge Parish and into Westwego parish. Jackson halted his march at a stream called "Hogback" because he feared Indian attacks and possible ambushes by local warriors known as the Maoris or Cajuns. He ordered all men to cross over without weapons and build bridges over the stream using logs that had been brought down from high up in the trees nearby; this event is known as "the Hogue Bridge Incident." A small community developed around Hogback Creek near where Jackson stopped his march, but it soon disappeared when soldiers arrived with cannons and burned all of the homes and stores they encountered along their route. At some point between 1803-1804, a man named Nicholas DeMasse built a cabin on Hogback Creek which became known as DeMasse's Station. In 1809, Isaac Newton established a trading post at Hogback Creek which served as an important center for trade with surrounding areas including New Orleans and Mobile Bayou).
