In 1840, another pair of guns were build by J F Henson in West Monroe using American Whitewood as their barrel material instead of European Walnut which gave them a more rustic look. Both guns fired shot at 100 yards using flintlocks instead of muzzleloaders like most other firearms at this time- something that would become common later on when breechloading firearms became available In 1850 Capt Charles Smith equipped one half dozen men from his company with rifles mounted on wagons drawn by mules to patrol the town limits looking out for Indians . One possible reason why wagon wheels could not be cut down so that cavalry riders could fire through these openings is that there existed no suitable technology available at this time to do so without damaging either vehicle or person . This type of operation continued into1855 when Capt Charles Smith died leaving his riflemen garrisoned around town limit jobs including night watchman etc… When General Ulysses S Grant arrived in East Texas in 1862 he ordered all troops within 1 League from towns along Arkansas & Missouri Railroad east towards Huntsville & Brazoria County then northwest across Red River Valley towards Wichita Falls

The Mormon colonists named their settlement Nauvoo after Joseph Smith's family home on Illinois Avenue in Chicago where he was born prematurely on December 6, 1815. Because it was not authorized by federal law (and because Mormons did not have permits from local authorities), they were Class C felons and could not own or operate any property within city limits without special privileges from the government The first settler in West Monroe was Wm Henson who arrived with his family on October 2, 1840 from Quincy, Massachusetts via boat ride across the river into Jefferson Parish On November 5th 1840 Wm Henson erected a log cabin known as Henson's house which still stands today along with a few other pioneer buildings that remain abandoned or used by locals or developers today including: White House Hill School (now Pioneer Elementary School) - which served as both schoolhouse and barn; Masonic Lodge No 4 - whose meeting hall still remains standing; Post Office - built about 1850 but never used since it closed down around 1870 when wires got cut inside due to high winds; Methodist Episcopal Church - built c 1830 but replaced c 1860 with First Baptist Church which still stands today adjacent to White House Hill School according to some sources while others claim that this church may have been moved elsewhere during construction Nauvoo Islanders also developed plantations such as Brown sugar cane plantation beginning about 1840 while there are also references to various fishing villages being established at various points along Bayou Teche starting about 1800 especially around Pointe Coupée where several miles wide channel was created providing easy access for boats loaded with fish through deep water channels away from navigational hazards

In 1821, two brothers, Isaac and Jacob West Monroe, founded a small town on the banks of the Red River in what is now West Monroe. The town grew rapidly and by 1835 had a population of around 100 people. In 1837, the United States acquired Louisiana from France and named it after President James K. Polk. The town continued to grow and by 1840 had a population of 1,500 people. In 1845, the town was renamed Monroe after Ulysses S. Grant, who later served as President of the United States. By 1860, Monroe had a population of 5,000 people and was one of the largest towns in Louisiana. The town experienced some financial difficulties during the mid-19th century but recovered eventually becoming prosperous again thanks to its strong manufacturing base and its role as an important center for education and industry.
