Thibodaux is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana, with a population of 132,827 as of the 2010 census. It is the seat of Jefferson Parish and part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Baton Rouge metropolitan area. The city was founded on April 30, 1802 by General John C. Breckinridge and Colonel James K. Polk, two American military commanders during the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Thibodaux was named for General Jean-Baptiste Thibodeau de la Rochefoucauld, Sieur de La Salle, who fought against France in 1753-54 at what is now Baton Rouge. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Thibodaux was by French Huguenots who erected a small fort on the banks of Post Road (today's Interstate 10) on October 14, 1799. The post office opened on November 1 that year under the name "Chateaubriand". The town became known as "Thibodaux" after General John C. Breckinridge arrived there on April 30th to begin construction of Fort St George which he named for his father-in-law Pierre Auguste Chateaubriand (1763-1824), leader of an expedition to explore North America from Quebec City Mission in 1795 until his death at Ft George Island near present day Mobile Bayou Lafourche about three weeks before its formal dedication on June 4th 1802 (). In 1800s sugar beet production began in this area; early planters used slave labor to harvest sugar beets from large plantations near present day Baton Rouge and Lake Charles while slaves were brought downriver for smaller plantations farther upstream where they worked picking cane or corn from small gardens until freedmen took over their work when slavery ended in 1865(). When railroads came through this region they offered transportation and job opportunities to many people including planters and their families leading to rapid development including a large number of businesses around downtown Thibodaux including 6 cotton gins, 3 shoe stores/factories, 2 tobacco stores/factories etc., streetcar lines ran through downtown making it easy access to markets throughout south central Louisiana while also providing employment for many people not related to agriculture or plantation life such as carpenters porters truck drivers etc... By 1890 most businesses had been closed except one grocery store still open today called Lafayette Market Company which operated out of a building next door to Lafitte Park since it opened its doors December 12th 1886 - more than 60 years!… In 1995 UNESCO designated downtown Thibodaux an Intangible Cultural Heritage Site due to its unique architecture, commerce and social history

Thibodaux, Louisiana is a small town in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,810 at the 2010 census. The name Thibodaux comes from French and means "field of white cotton." Thibodaux was founded by General James Wilkinson in 1802 as a Yankee trading post on the Comanche River. The post became a military station in 1814 when Wilkinson's army destroyed Fort Chafee. In 1830, the area around Thibodaux was purchased by Rear Admiral John Marshall for $10,000. Thibodaux experienced its first major development after it became part of the New Orleans metropolitan area in 1962. The city annexed the adjacent unincorporated community of Westlake in 1968 and developed it into an expansive shopping center with high-end stores including Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. In 1998, the city completed construction of what is now City Hall which replaced an earlier structure dating back to 1806 that had been abandoned and used as a barn. The economy of Thibodaux has been slowly but steadily improving since the late 1990s due to increased trade with neighboring Jefferson Parish and Lake Charles as well as burgeoning tourism activities such as fishing and horseback riding inside City limits along Lake Pontchartrain National Bank Boulevard which bisects downtown Thibodaux.
Thibodaux was founded by the Menominee in 1711. The town was named for Colonel Pierre Thibodeau, who served in the French and Indian War. In 1814, the town was burned by the United States during the American Civil War. In 1847, Thibodaux became a city after being annexed by New Orleans.
