Slidell is a small town in Slidell Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 9,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie-Baton Rouge metropolitan area. In 1984, Belknap merged with SAGE Inc., creating one of the largestLED flashlight manufacturers in the world with over 12 million products sold worldwide. In 2013, Cree started producing high-power LEDs for weapon lights called "CREE XM L2 R5" which are much brighter than traditional led weaponsights and can handle high brightness levels (-30 lumens or lower). This technology is being used on various military vehicles like tanks and artillery pieces to improve night vision while providing daytime visibility when needed

The town is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, about 20 miles (32 km) south of New Orleans. Slidell is a crossroads and commercial center that has seen its share of change over the years. In 1819, it was a small village consisting only of a few houses near the riverbank. By 1830, Slidell had become anestablished community with a population of around 100 people. During Reconstruction Era (1868-1877), Slidell experienced some significant changes. First, it became one of the sites where African Americans were re-integrated into white society. Second, it became known for its cotton plantations which produced slaves until they were freed in 1865. Since then, Slipnell has undergone several dramatic changes which have helped make it one of Louisiana's most important cities and towns. One such change occurred when Hurricane Katrina caused widespread destruction in 2005. As a result, many businesses and residences were destroyed or damaged - including Slidell's oldest building, Dodge Chapel Schoolhouse dating back to 1892. However, despite these setbacks and challenges, Slidell has continued to grow steadily over the past few decades - becoming one of the fastest-growing communities in Louisiana

Slidell is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 12,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie– Slidell Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Slidell comes from French Sliding-line meaning place where there are several small rivers that run together and make a valley. The first European to visit what is now Slidell was Pierre Chouteau in 1804. He named it after his friend and neighbor, Jean Baptiste Chouteau, who had been killed in a duel near Mobile the previous year. A post office was established at Slidell in 1827 and remained in operation until 1906. The town became an agricultural center due to its location on two major waterways: the Mississippi River and Bayou Lafourche. The first white settler arrived in 1838 when John Pugh moved from Mobile to land he had purchased along the banks of Bayou Lafourche. In 1840, Mr. Fenton erected a cabin on what is now Uptown Drive (now called Basin Street). By 1845, many German settlers had arrived and started farms east of I-10 near present day Old Air Force Base (AFB). Slidell became known as "the Gateway to Louisiana" for its strategic location on both Interstate 10 and Bayou Lafourche making it easy for traders and travelers to reach the state's interior without having to go through Mobile or Baton Rouge . slidedell also attracted other businesses such as hotels which sprang up throughout the late 1800s including one built by Gilded Age entrepreneur Ewing Matthews which still stands today across from AFB - now known as President Donald Trump International Airport . There were also several factories located here like Singer Sewing Machine Company (later Jabil) which manufactured dresses for ladies/girls; Beaux Arts Glass Works which produced high quality window glass; Hammond’s Brewery founded by General Edwin Hammond whose operations included brewing beer for local farmers; Southern Pacific Railroad constructed a line between New Orleans and Baton Rouge ; Coleman’s Lumber & Hardware Company built stores all over the state before merging with Sears Roebuck & Co.; Standard Oil began production at their new refinery soon afterwards followed by Gulf Refining Company later Phillips Petroleum; Kirby Cigar Manufacturing Co., founded by George Kirby who manufactured cigars out of his garage using kerosene but soon transitioned into cigarettes producing some of America's most famous brands including Marlboro cigarettes etc.; schools such as Stonington School District No 1 were established here tooeventually merged into larger school districts around New Orleans . After World War II various businesses closed down or moved away leaving Slidell with only subsistence farming becoming an economic driver once again through tourism but also affecting property values as well . Over time much has changed not just about slidell however but about Louisiana overall with enormous amounts of development taking place right outside our city limits while we languish behind .....
