Slidell, Louisiana is a small town located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The population was 9,820 at the 2000 census. The town is named after General Andrew Johnson who served as President of the United States from 1868 to 1875. The city's economy depends heavily on agriculture, manufacturing, service industries such as banking and insurance, and tourism. In recent years Slidell has become known for its annual Jazz fest which attracts many international artists to perform over two days in late July/early August.
