In 1882, the townspeople built their own Shooting Gallery which remains one of Slidell’s most popular tourist attractions today. During World War II, many local businesses went out of business because they could not produce enough munitions to support the war effort. This led to an increase in target shooting activities as people turned to Shooting Range 1 for their next shooting outing. In recent years, Slidell has seen a resurgence in its gun targets industry with new businesses opening up and more people coming back for their next hunting or shooting opportunity.
Slidell is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. Slidell was founded on November 10, 1814 by French settlers as Plan de la Rivière (River's Landing), and became a parish in 1834. It was named for General John Slidell, who served as governor of Louisiana from 1824 to 1830 and as president of the United States from March 4, 1830 to March 3, 1829. The first store in Slidell was built on Main Street in 1836 by James Loyd. By 1840, there were four stores in Slidell; two were owned by Mr. and Mrs. Peete and two were owned by Auld and McFarlane. In 1865-66 Edwin Troup built the first cotton gin in America at Slipnell Landing; it operated until 1880. In 1870–71 Jno Cavanaugh organized a group of farmers who purchased 1,500 acres (600 hectares) around what is now downtown Slidell to form the Belle Terre Agricultural District No 1; this district provided fertile land for crops such as sugar cane, cornbeans, cottonseed oil and rice plantations; also developed were churches and schools which quickly became popular with residents of the rural areas surrounding them due to their educations available within easy reach while living close to marketplaces where fresh produce could be bought daily or weekly during those early days of American development - much like today's supermarkets! From its inception through World War II when it experienced some serious damage due to military occupation – including firebombing – Slidell slowly regained most lost ground but still experienced many challenges over that period including numerous housing developments (Belle Terre via Gentilly/Downtown), replacement of roads & bridges throughout parish & even annexation of portions of neighboring parishes following WWII … all without losing its longtime characteristically indigenous female leaderships that continue hand-crafting everything from cookies (& Upshur cake!) through lace making (& yes there are still ladies' softball teams!), quilting (& yes we do have lady mayors!), potterymaking (& YES we do have lady judges!), flower arranging (&YES they do offer calligraphy lessons!), etc.; anything goes here! Today’s slidellians are generally more educated than their predecessors having graduated from local high school & often attending college or university; yet they remain deeply rooted in their community values both inside & outside their homes! In fact one recent study found that 78% of respondents said they view themselves as “very proud” locals who take pride both personally & professionally in their hometown!

Slidell was founded in 1806 as a post office called Red Bayou. It became Slidell in 1821 when the town of Slidell and the parish of St. Mary were consolidated into one municipality. In 1836, the post office was renamed to Slidell after General James H. Slidell, who had been a general in the American Civil War and then a U.S. senator from Louisiana. The town's name has been changed only once, to Thibodaux in 1870 due to an observation by Napoleon Bonaparte that "the city of Thibodaux is too small for such men as we have there." The city's first mayor was John Gourde and its first clerk was Joseph Aiken. The present slidellique courthouse, built between 1904 and 1908, is ondocsquad Street across from the old courthouse on New Orleans Square (now part of Lakeview Drive). The old courthouse burned down on July 4th, 1861 while the new one was under construction; it reopened in 1865 but soon became inadequate for court purposes and was replaced by the current building. Slidell has two rivers running through it: River Road runs along Bayou Lafourche south to Baton Rouge and north to New Orleans; River Street runs along riverfronts east-west between downtown and Old Town Square; and Canal Boulevard runs northwest-southeast through downtown along canal banks Once upon a time there were several mills which generated considerable dust which contributed greatly to Sliderill's reputation as an unhealthy place even though their chimneys still smoked today! It isn't surprising then that so many wells stood unheeded for so long until finally some enterprising citizens got around to drilling them! After all if these people could get water then others could too...sliderillians did what they could do! In 1860 slidellians voted overwhelmingly not to annex St Tammany Parish because they felt that would give rise to more taxes than necessary while also surrendering much cultural heritage including traditional music, dance styles etc., yet over time this opposition softened with each successive annexation attempt until eventually Sliderillians tacitly supported any proposed annexation given that it would mean more access to water resources essential for their community's growth
