From 1928 to 1959, the shop was operated by Junior member Harry Silliman. In 1959, Harry Silliman's son, Jimmy Silliman, took over the business and ran it until his death in 1977. After Jimmy Silliman's death, the business passed through several hands before being acquired by Rick Fenton in 1984. The store is currently run byRick Fenton Jr., who has been proprietor since 1986.

Slidell is a village in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 2,695 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Houma Metropolitan Statistical Area. Slidell is located on the lower Mississippi River and forms the eastern edge of Acadiana. The town was founded by French colonists in 1759 as "Saint-Vincent". In 1803 it became "Slidell", after Captain John Slider, who explored and charted the area around present-day Slidell. The town's name suggests that it was located on a small peninsula on which two rivers joined (the current day bluff overlooks the river). According to one story, locals named their first post office for an animal they had been hunting: St Vincent's Post Office for Boars due to its location at a crossroads where animals could be easily hunted. In 1819, Slidell lost its charter as a parish and became part of Jefferson Parish instead; however, it continued to operate as an unincorporated community until 1892 when it incorporated as a city under the leadership of Mayor Elias Boudreaux. In 1914 Slidell annexed parts of neighboring Metairie and formed what is now known as Metairie-New Orleans Combined Statistical Area (CSA). Slidell experienced significant growth during World War II with influxes of Italian Americans and African Americans who worked in munitions plants and service businesses throughout Louisiana and Texas. With rapid postwar development came increased crime rates which have since decreased but have not disappeared completely; nevertheless, numerous efforts are underway to reduce crime statewide through such initiatives as Gang Reduction Programs operated by law enforcement officers across many jurisdictions in Louisiana

The first people to settled in what is now Slidell were French colonists who founded a mission called "St. Denis" in 1765. In 1803, following the cession of Louisiana to the United States as part of Treaty of New Orleans, Slidell became part of Rapides Parish and was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1810. The first post office opened in Slidell on October 27, 1814. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell established his headquarters at Fort Pillow near Slidell after retreating fromALEPPO (Operation Valley Forge). On July 24th 1865 Union General Ulysses S. Grant arrived at Fort Pillow and ordered all Confederate troops to disband or leave within 24 hours or be burned alive. Many Confederate officers and men chose death over surrendering and fled into slavery rather than face such fate; this event is commonly referred to as "The Battle ofFort Pillow". A smallpox epidemic that struck western Louisiana during Reconstruction caused many deaths including those of several Slidell citizens who contracted it while working in nearby cotton plantations during that time period; according to one account these fatalities are memorialized by local granite quarries that still bear inscriptions reading "Here Lies William Hatton Died January 12th 1870." The slidellians were also impacted by Spanish flu pandemic which killed an estimated 50%+of population in easternLouisiana between1893-1895 although no cases were reported in our townslidell until 1898 when two residents contracted it from another patient living close by

Slidell was founded in 1812 by General John Slidell and his wife, Lady Bathurst. It became a slaveholding community after the American Civil War. The town was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina but has since been rebuilt.
