In 1971, the USNRL merged with NASA to form NASA Glenn Research Center (NRAGLR), which is now known as Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). This merger left NRAGLR with a significant amount ofgun-laser technology intact and it continues to develop and manufacture high qualitygun lasers today.

Slidell is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 166 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area. Slidell was founded by French colonists in 1718 and named for François-Xavier de Slidell, marquis de Lafayette's brother-in-law. The first white people to live in Slidell were the Natchitoches Indians who arrived from Illinois in 1699. In 1803, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through the community on its way to battle against General Napoleon Bonaparte at Gettysburg. After the battle, many of these soldiers and their families settled in what is now Slidell. In 1814, Slaton Crenshaw became one of two sectional representatives from Louisiana to attend Congress as a delegate from Jefferson Parish. He later served as Speaker of the House (1829–31) and as governor (1833–35). From 1815 until 1890, Slidell was home to both an Episcopal Church and a Methodist Church—the latter being converted into an all-African American church called Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1865 after incorporation by African Americans into that denomination. When New Orleans hosted the 1900 Cotton Exposition, slidell played host to America's largest fair ever with over 100 exhibitors including several cotton mills that produced up to 12 million pounds of cloth per day during this time period! Many famous old homes still stand today including: Mrs Elisha Kappeler's Mansion which she purchased from her father-in-law; Dr John Wesley Hardison's Plantation which he built starting in 1830; Brown Bros' Mill; and Waddell & White Company's Warehouse which stood until 1897 when it burned down due to arson!

By the end of the nineteenth century, Slidell's economy had collapsed due to the advent of modernization and agricultural innovations in neighboring Saint Bernard Parish.
