There are also several acres of parkland that include a football stadium used by both local high school teams (the Lady Jaguars and the Stallions) and an all-weather track used for tournaments throughout the year. Slidell has been called "the most historic place you will ever visit." It has experienced many changes over its history but has always retained some of its traditional values including its small town atmosphere, public square full of historically Significant artifacts such as Captain John Slidley's cannonball fortifications from before Louisiana became part of America, live music every night during summer months at one or more local pubs/restaurants etc., Preservation Day events annually on Saturdayth April to celebrate all that has been preserved about this little corner of Acadiana Parish - from buildings to streetscapes to people!
