Shreveport, Louisiana is a city in the southeastern United States. The population was 105,604 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Louisiana and is located on the Texas Gulf Coast. The University of Louisiana at Shreveport (ULA) was founded in 1892 as part of the state's new university system. ULA became one of America's first Jesuit universities with a focus on eschewing technological advances to promote learning through scholarship and research. In 1937, ULAs School of Veterinary Medicine merged with Central Southwestern College to become ULA/CSC Health Sciences Campus. In 1966, ULA opened its own downtown campus adjacent to State Capitol Avenue that remains today one of the largest educational institutions in Louisiana. The current president and CEO of ULA is Dr. Rick Crawford while Jack Bogle serves as interim president until a new leader can be appointed by the board of trustees Upon their departure in November 2020 . Shreveport has always been an important center for science and technology due to its location on both sides of the Texas Gulf Coast between Houston and New Orleans. The city hosted several major international events related to physics during World War II including Convair-17 tests at nearby Clear Lake Naval Air Station (now John F Kennedy airport) which helped bring about national security reforms; Project Paperclip which saw American scientists working with Nazi Germany during World War II; and development work on V-2 rockets by British contractor AEC Laviolette Ltdorporated within Shreveport’s limits during WWII

The history of Shreveport dates back to 1802 when Captain John Crain founded a trading post on the Red River near present-day Shreveport. A year later, he donated additional land to form what is today known as Downtown Shreveport with a courthouse and jail at its center. In 1835, entrepreneur David Dixon purchased 1/3 interest in downtown Shreveport from Fenton for $40 cash which he used to start Dixon Land Company (later renamed Dixon Manufacturing). Dixon started manufacturing goods such as saddles and boots there until his death in 1865 due to pneumonia contracted while visiting Mobile Bayou during a fishing expedition. In 1865, General Nathan Bedford Forrest captured Fort Hindman on I-10 outside present day Baton Rouge and burned it down; this event helped spur development around that area following Reconstruction (1865–1877). As business boomed around downtown Shreveportsenterprise began investing further into town sites including those along Interstate 10 east of town along Slaughter Road and just south of I-10 exit 214B off US 82/US 60 Altitude Rd., becoming one of America's leading transportation companies during this time period also In 1870s local attorney Tishomingo Noland became involved with politics serving as Mayor from 1871 through 1875 before being elected Lieutenant Governor concurrent with James Keesling Thayer who served two terms from 1876 through 1880 under then Supreme Court Chief Justice Levi Woodbury before winning election as Mayor again in 1886 aftermath some bad feeling between Noland &Thayer over issue related votes During Reconstruction era there were many black attorneys who became successful lawyers like William Henshaw & husband Sam Henshaw prominent examples
