Shreveport, LA is known as the “City of Champions” for many reasons. The city has been home to a number of professional sports teams and athletes, including NFL players Ray Lewis and Terrell Owens, MLB player Michael Jordan, and WNBA players Shaniqua Smith and Elena Delle Donne. The city also hosts the annual Louisiana State Fairgrounds Shooting Championships which have been held in Shreveport since 1895. The fairgrounds were originally built to house artillery batteries that were used during World War I. Today, the fairgrounds are home to a range of shooting activities including target practice, rifle shooting, pistol shooting, skeet shooting, and traphooting. The first target holders event in Shreveport was organized by Captain John Hays who was responsible for organizing the military parade in downtown Shreveport on July 4th 1892. At this event, several Hundredtarget holders from all over Louisiana arrived in town to compete against each other at various distances. These target holders events continued throughout the early years of target holding in Shreveport. Eventually an organization was formed called the Municipal Targets Association (MTA) which aimed to promote target holding within their community. In 1916 MTA organized the first state championship tournament where box shot competition took place between local clubs using Target Holders available at local businesses across the stateline. This event led to increased demand for Target Holders within our community so that more people could participate in these competitions without having to travel away from their homes! In 1958 Mayor James Fenton began fundraising for a new indoor range which would be used by police departments throughout Louisiana due to concerns aboutunsafe outdoor ranges being open to public access. On November 3rd 1958 Mayor Fenton announced that he had secured enough money from private donors to fund construction of a brand new indoor range which would serve as both a training facility for law enforcement officers as well as future targets supporters! The new range was officially dedicated on February 14th 1959 and became known as “The Shootout Place”! During its long history “The Shootout Place” has seen numerous tournaments take place featuring different gun types along with thousands of participants from all over Louisiana! Many famous name shooters have competed here such as Bobby Jones Jr., Willie Dunn III, Doug Ferguson Sr., Ronnie Coleman Sr., Norm Kelly Sr., Larry Bird (who won his only competitive match at “The Shootout Place”), Ivan Drago (the only man ever able To win two Olympic gold medals with two different Pistol disciplines), Dick Stockton (winner of five world titles with three different guns), Phil Mickelson (winner of seventeen major championships with six different firearms), Jack Nicklaus (winner of eighteen major championships with eleven different weapons), etc... It is truly oneofthe Mecca's for firearm enthusiasts throughout Southeast Texas & Louisiana!

This place became known as "Chesapeake Point" because it had an isolated location on a peninsula connected to both rivers by means of a bridge called Catoctin Bridge. After Captain Cook's discovery, many Frenchmen and Africans started arriving in search of new land to settle; these newcomers were followed by more English settlers in the early 1800s. By 1811, most of what is now Bossier Parish had been founded with only Choctaw and Caddo populations remaining until white settlement began around 1845 The earliest white settlers arrived during the antebellum period; this time period saw slaveowners purchase large tracts of land along the riverbanks adjacent to where later Shreveports would be built Slavery ended throughout much of Louisiana following its collapse following the American Civil War By 1830, all but 12 percent of Baton Rouge's population had originated from within Louisiana ; this number increased to 100 percent within five years cotton plantations were established throughout much or allof what is now Rapides Parish beginning about 1840 Northern capitalists interested in exploiting southern labor began investing money into cotton plantation farming beginning about 1860 Southern planters response begins focused on defended their lands against encroachment from northerners
