Polk appointed Colonel Eli Whitney as president pro tempore for the First District Court which included all Texas except for Baton Rouge (then known as St. Louis) because he needed someone to head up a court system while he was traveling through that area during his presidency; Whitney quickly realized that Baton Rouge should be part of this court system too since it had so many people living there already! When Whitney returned from his trip, he recommended that Baton Rouge become its own municipality because it would have more political power within Orleans Parish than any other town or village within our parish! Shreveport, Louisiana is a city in the U.S. state of Louisiana and the county seat of Shreveport Parish. The population was 343,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie-Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The areas now comprising Shreveport were settled by French Canadians in 1718 along the banks of the Arkansas River before it was ceded to Spain in 1803 as part of Texas; this area became known as Spanish Fort. In 1834, Shreveport was incorporated as a town within Rapides Parish; it became an independent city on January 2, 1905 when Rapides Parish merged with Jefferson Parish to form Jefferson County. The name "Shreveport" originated from Captain John Bogue's landing there on November 25, 1719 while seeking passage to Havana aboard HMS Enterprise under Lt.-Governor ThomasJefferson's command after liberating slaves from their owners in Baton Rouge. The first courthouse in what is now downtown Shreveport was built on Market Street in 1837 by Jabez Bowen and his brother James Bowen Sr.; it served as an appellate court until 1840 when a new courthouse was built north of FourthStreet on Court Avenue; that building served as the nucleus for all subsequent courthouses throughout much of downtown Shreveport's history until destroyed by fire in 1911. The old Courthouse Tower still stands today (although not used) near Third Street and Broadway Streets across from Bankers Trust Company; inside are several exhibits related to early African American life in Jackson County during this period including examples of slave uprisings and documents relating thereto. In 1862 Confederate General Braxton Bragg attacked Union forces at Drewry's Bluff south of present day Lafayette Lake while they were besieged by Union troops under General Robert Ewell; Confederate Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Kirby Smith led a counterattack which resulted in two Union fatalities prior to Bragg withdrawing his forces back into Mobile Province effective immediately thereafter without any British casualties being reported or documented whatsoever! This event helped lead directly to Kirby Smith's later appointment as Commandant/General (later Major general)of Confederate Forces operating within Mississippi Territory following General Robert Ewell's overall retreat from Arkansas Valley late that year! On October 24, 1865, assassination attempt against President Abraham Lincoln occurred at Ford’s Theatre located just east of present day Federal Boulevard and West Seventh Street within Arlington Heights Cemetery northwest of Washington Dc., resulting ultimately resultin Lincoln’s death over the next few days due primarily to multiple gunshot wounds received by him during the altercation ensuing between himself and John Wilkes Booth who had attempted unsuccessfully previous times also! Priorities then shifted quickly shift once again upon discovering additional evidence emerging surrounding both presidential assassinations namely: Booth’s having left significant sums thereof behind eastern Maryland prior thereto residing with relative Joshua Speed who also resided close enough away from both locations for such purpose therein making likely conspiratorial culpability thereby incriminating many key individuals involved including homeowner Andrew Johnson aforementioned sitting atop perceived “Champion Hill” location nearby unable or unwilling ever remotely interfered nor monitored proceedings taking place therein whatsoever! Notwithstanding some already existing suspicions voiced about certain individuals implicated herein previously extant circumstantial evidence had pileup sufficient around such time leading up thereto so eventually charges were brought forth against many key individuals involved subsequently culminating finally with conviction & jail terms imposed thereby proving beyond doubt that juries indeed do have ultimate power regarding matters pertaining thereto!)
