Shreveport is a city in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 103,567 at the 2010 census. It is the fifth-largest city in Louisiana and the largest in Bossier Parish. The area around Shreveport has been inhabited by people since 6500 BC. The first Europeans to visit what is now Shreveport were French traders who described it as an important natural harbour on the Red River. In 1814, American General Andrew Jackson led his army through Bossier Parish during its invasion of Mexico to take Saltillo and Veracruz before invading Texas two years later. After Mexican president Alvarado's surrender at San Antonio de Bexar on October 16, 1818, General Jackson ordered General Wilkinson to march through Bossier Parish and burn any cotton plantations found there while he was besieging New Orleans. The Battle of Shreveport (October 14–15, 1811) was fought between American forces under Jackson and Mexican forces under Santa Anna over control of nearby Iberia County in south-central Texas during the War for Independence. A force of about 25 thousand Americans joined with elements of Santa Anna's army commanded by Francisco Méndez y Costilla after they evacuated their capital Monterrey on September 15th and attacked Jackson's main force near present day downtown Shreveport without result. On October 14th a large force of about 50 thousand Americans under Maj.-Gen John Crain confronted Santa Anna's forces commanded by José Joaquín Escobar that numbering approximately 175 thousand men had marched from Veracruz via San Antonio de Bexar into Arkansas Territory following Ulysses S Grant's Butler Expedition against Mexico on September 26th which had failed to capture Ciudad Juárez despite receiving numerous reports of Indian activity across much of central Texas Aftermath: More than one hundred Texans were killed or captured including Escobar; more than twenty three hundred men were wounded; more than six hundred homes were burned; $8 million worth of crops were destroyed Santa Anna took refuge within Mission San Fernando Rey de España until February 2nd when he surrendered at Houston Heights after losing most elements of his army above Wichita Falls To this date no one has been convicted for any part in the massacre at Shreveport

As part of this trade, goods such as sugarcane, cotton plantations, livestock, metals such as lead and zinc ore, cattle hides and horns etc., were exported to New Orleans where they were transformed into commodities like whiskey or beef before shipment back up Interstate 10 eastward to marketplaces throughout southern Texas via stops at San Antonio de Bexar (present-day San Antonio) Laredo City (Laredo), Nuevo Laredo City (Nuevo Laredo), Corpus Christi City (Corpus Christi), Brownsville/Harlingen County seat (Brownsville) then on down IH 10 until reaching Midland Junction where trucks turned around at two stoplights located east of Midland near Waco road before continuing their journey northward through eastern Oklahoma past Tuttle Creek National Wildlife Refuge then crossing into Canada Highway Noordank about 20 miles south of Edmonton AB then proceeding northeast toward Winnipeg MB
