When World War I started Aikenville became shelter for military personnel moving westward from Arkansas via I-10 during their stay in Texas before crossing into Mexico City enroute home Aikenville grew rapidly due to its position near Interstate 10 and easy access to markets outside of Mobile County (then part of Alabama) - becoming one of America's leading agricultural towns by 1920s With highways connecting all parts of rural America through I-10, Aikenville quickly became a major transportation hub
