Fentonville grew rapidly due to its strategic location - just offshore from New Orleans - and its access to Cochin Bayou (now I-10). By 1830, Fentonville had over 100 residents; it remained one of America's fastest growing towns until Katrina hit in 2005. After Katrina destroyed most businesses within two blocks of downtown Shreveport – even leaving some people homeless – development resumed only slowly until present day[when?]. Prior to Hurricane Katrina damage inflicted by floodwaters reaching almost level 5 levees onshore,[when?] many businesses which had been looted during Hurricane Rita were still standing: banks such as JP Morgan Chase & Co., Sears Roebuck & Co., AIG Travelers Insurance Company et al.; restaurants like Olive Garden & Babbo's Pizza; pharmacies like CVS Caremark Pharmacy et al.; post office boxes such as Ameritech Post Box #2144 etc.; however these stores were gradually replaced by newer brick buildings since most people now live outside the city limits or rely on public transportation which is often affected by weather conditions such as floods or storms
