Raton, Louisiana is a small town in the parish of Baton Rouge, in the central region of Louisiana. The population was 9,567 at the 2000 census. It is named after General A. P. In 1837, George Hennepin set out from St Cloud to explore this land he had claimed east of Lake Pontchartrain; his party included Latter Day Saints (Mormons) led by Brigham Young and resulted in three days' navigation overland before reaching Ratton Island on July 11th—the first recorded exploration and discovery westward beyond Missouri River that eventually led to American settlement across much of northern Canada including Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg; Hennepin returned August 4th but no one followed him upriver because there were no boats available for such an undertaking between those points on either side of the river—a typical feature throughout much North America during that era! On October 15th 1840 Samuel Morse sent a telegraph message from Baltimore announcing he had found oil wells near present day Baton Rouge; within months US investors had organized themselves into companies to prospect for oil along both banks of the Mississippi River where crude oil would be developed as a result! On December 10th 1840 Governor Adair ordered all male citizens over 21 years old residing within any parish or district in this state must register with government officials if they possessed any amount “of natural resources” whether mineral or timber! This order extended to all men regardless of race or color so any slaveholding family could also have been affected! A year later on February 7th 1841 Josephine Mayhew married William Moultrie; she was probably born about 1800s about five miles northeast of Ratton off La Salle Road just south of junction with US 66 which leads south to New Orleans . She may have been related to early settlers like her husband – both being descended from English refugees who came through these parts around 1700s looking for new opportunities based upon God's will for them according as they saw fit! !!! By 1850 only 8% black residents resided in Orleans Parish while 92% white residents lived here according to Census data collected at that time!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! So even though Raton Island & surrounding swampy lands lay mostly outside former limits Of Orleans Parish Population According To 1830 Census Data..... Raton Islanders continued To Live Here Even After Return Of Black Citizens
