Ruston is a small town in the parish of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans, located in southeastern Louisiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,814. Ruston is the largest community in Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans and one of its most unusual communities. The first white person to live in Ruston was Nicholas Beauregard, who arrived there on a ship from France in 1803. He built a home on Courier Street and named it after his father-in-law, General Andrew Jackson. The earliest settlers were women: Marie Laveau (1792-1868), Mary Ann Saunders (1800-1881), and Julienne Thibodeaux (1801-1878). In 1827, Father Pierre Broussard founded a religious order called "L’Ecole des Thérèses" here. In 1840, Frédéric Le Moyne erected the first Catholic church in Ruston – St. John the Baptist Parish Church – with funding from French entrepreneur James Kenedy. By 1850, Ruston had over 100 residents and 10 buildings; by 1860 it had 400 residents and 30 buildings. In 1865–66 President Abraham Lincoln visited Ruston while on campaign trail through southeastern Louisiana; he was so impressed by the town's architecture that he ordered all new churches built there “according to models which I have seen at Washington City” (Fowler). The post office opened atruston@mail1 on July 8th 1870; within two years it had reached a total population of 350 inhabitants including men and women combined - an unprecedented number for any town or village then existing within Roman Catholicism Archdiocese of New Orleans. Ruston's growth continued apace during Reconstruction era following World War II when large numbers of African Americans relocated to Ruston as part of The Great Migration period following America's entry into war against Nazi Germany; many rustons became black majority towns overnight. In 1960sRustontown experienced significant crime rate increase due to waves migration from rural areas towards urban cores across south central Louisiana

Ruston, Louisiana is a small town located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. The population was 5,649 at the 2000 census. Ruston is one of the oldest towns in Rapides Parish and was founded in 1848. It was named for General John C. Ruston who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a U.S. Representative from Louisiana from 1881 to 1893. The first settler in Ruston was James Waddell who came to the area in 1849. Waddell built a cabin on what is now US 90A about two miles west of present day Ruston. In 1851, Isaac Ellis acquired shares of land east of current day Ruston and began cultivation of corn, beans, and other vegetables near his cabin along with building a log house which he called "The Cabin." In 1861, John Hargrave purchased land west of present day Ruston from Ellis for $500 cash and started farming cotton there also along with erecting a white frame house which he called "Hargrave's House." By 1865, Hargrave had added acreage to his farm totaling 6 acres that produced crops such as rice, wheat, corn meal (maize), sugar beets (white sugar beets), eggs (crushed eggs), butter (milk), bacon (rendered butter), apples (frozen applesauce) and peas were being grown nearby too! By 1870s ruston had become an important center for trade with neighboring villages such as Thibodaux and Luling since it possessed its own post office which functioned until 1912 when it became part of Alexandria. Furthermore by 1880s ruston's merchants had developed into well-to-do citizens through their involvement in local politics as members of theRapides Parish Committee or Board Of Education or even more importantly owning their own homes! During Reconstruction period following America's Civil WarRuston experienced growth due to its strategic location midway between New Orleans on the Gulf Coast across I-10 West/East of modern day Baton Rougeand Jefferson City on I-10 North/Southwest including railroads providing easy access to goods exported to ports all around America! Shipments could also be transported inland via riverboats connecting them with larger cities like Mobile Bayou & New Orleans thus economy grew rapidly due primarily to exports rather than imports! As early as1871the Cass County Road Commission reported that: "rustons [sic] are rapidly growing; they have three churches established within this last year alone; many dwellings have been erected during this time" while by 1889 Merchants Association report stated that: "the business interests hereabouts secure very good patronage both at home& abroad... hardly any place has so great an extent of interconnections among its people". rustON Baptists organized schools District No 1 Segregationist Movement 1896
