The first settler in Ruston was Nicholas Granger who arrived in 1810. He and his wife built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1814, Jno. Granger's father-in-law, Abram Edwards built a sawmill on the river near modern day Elmwood Avenue and Henderson Street. This mill became known as "Granger's Mill". They founded the first Baptist church in Ruston (now known as First Baptist Church), which was dedicated on October 15th 1830 by Rev James Laddie*.
