Pineville is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census. Pineville is located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. In 1892, Pineville native John Waddell donated land for an agricultural college called Tulane University which opened its doors in 1898. During World War II American forces stationed at Fort Worth Motor Speedway used pine trees as camouflage for their convoys moving supplies into Europe through the Ardennes Forest area; this led to the nickname "Pineywoods" for areas surrounding Fort Worth during wartime years.
