Pineville is a small town located in the Baton Rouge metropolitan area, in southeastern Louisiana. The population was 1,866 at the 2010 census. Pineville is known for its Saints football team and its production of pineapples. The city was founded by French colonists during the early 1800s as part of the colony of Orleans. When Orleans was redesignated as Baton Rouge in 1803, Pineville became part of that new city. After Baton Rouge's annexation by New Orleans in 1815, Pineville remained an unincorporated community within Orleans Parish until it became a full-time municipality on January 1, 1822. During World War II, many American soldiers were stationed here before being sent to fight in Europe or Japan. One such soldier, Captain John Kauczinski (1902-1987), who later served as Mayor from 1964 to 1987 and also authored "Pineville: A History", remains one of the most colorful characters associated with this time period in our town's history. Kauczinski had his own farm outside of town which he used as a military barracks while he awaited discharge from the army after World War II. He also organized and chaired several civic organizations including the Rotary Club and conducted voter registration drives for local candidates throughout his years as mayoralty; something that would become quite common during those days when townsfolk could easily access information about their local officials via newspapers and other means! In recent years, Pineville has experienced resurgence due to its proximity to both Baton Rouge and Shreveport; two large metropolitan areas with significant job opportunities available within commuting distance! As such, much development has taken place around the clock since Hurricane Katrina struck earlier this year; most notably a brand new high school which opened its doors on September 25th (just weeks after Katrina made landfall)!
