In 1928 Baptist preacher Leroy Matthews founded New Life Missionary Baptist Church which remains one of the town's most important churches today with an attendance of over 2 million people annually! Matthews also started PineVILLE Schools in 1928 which are now part of Jefferson Parish School Board! Today much has changed for residents and businesses located within walking or biking distance of downtown Pineville including Walmart Supercenter (opened in 2006), Tyson’s BBQ (opened 2005), Comcast Xfinity Center (2005), BP Amoco Station (2001-present), Stonestreet Mall (1995-1999) and many more! By 1990, it had increased to 60,000 residents and is now considered one of the fastest-growing communities in Louisiana. ettlement at this location began shortly after European exploration returned from their voyage around Africa in 1685–86 with reports of vast tracts of land lying beyond what was then known as North America. Local Native American leaders decided that this area would be best suited for farming because it had plenty of fertile soil and stream water availability; virgin forests lay to the east and west. A series Of grants were issued by King Louis XIV to help farmers establish new settlements along these routes being explored; some 590 properties were granted between 1720 and 1750 alone The first structures erected in what is now Pineville were log homes built by French colonists around 1700 President James Kenedy donated land northward from Mrnry Street on which Pineville High School stands today In 1819 members from Lafourche Parish conducted a survey that delineated lands east side Railroad tracks running through present day Lafourche Parish That year they also surveyed parts extending into Rapides Parish including what is now Pineville Maple Leaf Tavern was opened here by Drury & Company at 4th & I Streets on November 10th 1820

It became Pineville after the death of its original founder, Jean Baptiste Pine. The first post office in Pineville was established on November 12, 1824. The township was organized on February 3, 1834. In 1840, the name of the town changed to "New Orleans". On July 4th of that year, a devastating hurricane hit New Orleans and much of southeastern Louisiana killing more than 60 people including many prominent citizens such as Mayor James K. Polk and Congressman Claiborne Pell In 1865, General John A. McClernand's forces captured Baton Rouge from Confederate forces under General Pierre Beauregard and moved it north to New Orleans where it would stay for the rest of the war. After the end of World War II Pineville lost its municipal status but continues to be administered through Jefferson Parish government with some local services provided by volunteers
