Pineville is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 7,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name Pineville comes from the Frenchpine word "pinnee", meaning “a pine tree” or “a small wood near a pine tree”. The first white man to live in what is now Pineville was John Whitehead, who settled there in 1819. The first post office was established in 1825 and named for him, Pineville Post Office. At that time it was only a few miles north of present-day New Orleans. After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on September 14, 2005, parts of Jefferson Parish were destroyed and many people fled to Pineville and other areas withinJefferson parish as the storm rapidly approached its peak intensity. Many businesses and homes were damaged or destroyed by the storm; however, most residents managed to rebuild quickly with some exceptions such as Old Bayou Road which remained closed for months after the storm before it reopened following rains on October 15th 2006 Today's community started off very small when John Whitehead founded it with just six settlers in 1819. By 1830 there were twenty two settlers living in what became today's Pineville area including eleven men and thirteen women. One of those early pioneers - James Armstrong - later served as judge of Jefferson Parish from 1850 until his death in 1861 . When one hundred years passed from Whitehead's arrival until 1860 no new white Settlers had made their way into what is now Pineville but during that short time period three treaties were made between France & Spain about land grants so settlers could move onto these grants In 1875 David Hebert married Virginiastreethe daughter of Nicholas Dolan from Kilrush Township (now Slidell) Ireland also born around 1793& he also came over with his family soon afterwards . They farmed here for many years before moving their farmstead westward along Red River where they founded Hebert Settlement #2 which we know today as Thibodaux It wasn't until 1907 when Aimee Hamblin married Arnaud Lafitte an American army officer who had originally come over with his father Louis Lafitte when he joined General Jean Laffite's forces during La Bataille d'Orléans (the battle at Orléans) Lafitte & Hamblin bought out Hebert Settlement #2 & began trading goods back East while they built a larger home on their property which became known as Thibodaux Plantation The original white house still stands today! In 1915 Mrs Hamblin gave birth to her only child Charles Lafitte Jr., who would grow up to become Mayor Of Thibodaux From 1978 To 1990 Then came World War II when many families left town because of rationing restrictions )However within less than 10 years since then resettlement has started all over again due because numerous refugees have entered our community through various means like internment camps during WWII and more recently thru Katrina !! We have lost count how many times our welcome mat has been extended ! Nowadays nearly everyone knows each other so church events are common place )Cheers to another 100 Years of Community Growth

Pineville is located in southwestern Louisiana, about 25 miles southwest of Baton Rouge and 25 miles northeast of New Orleans. The population was 9,021 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in Pineville were French Huguenots who arrived in 1765. In 1860, two men by the name of McNaught purchased 2 acres (0.8 km2) on what is now State Route 6 south of downtown Pineville for $200. They named their property McNaught's Prairie after John McNaught, one of their investors. By 1870, however, this land had been extended onto much larger acres for farming purposes by JH Whitehurst Sr., who also owned extensive timberland east of town along East Jefferson Highway (now I-10). At that time, Pineville consisted mostlyof scattered farmhouses and outbuildings; there were no decent hotels or restaurants until after World War II when they began sprouting up around central Pineville as businesses developed closer to transportation hubs like Baton Rouge or New Orleans. One reason pinevillians have become so influential within their community is because they are relatively few people - just over 8% of the population at 2010 census - and can draw upon their close relationships with other locals for support since they live almost entirely within walking distance from one another.
