Pineville is a small town in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit this area was Father Pierre-Jacques Conte on September 3, 1699. He named it "Pineville" after a nearby tree. Today's Pineville was founded in 1872 by John Waddell and his brother George LEE WADDELL as a trading post on the Red River near modern day Lafayette. The town quickly grew with its sawmills and cotton plantations producing rice, sugar cane, lumber and other commodities for local distribution. In 1894, Pineville became one of five towns in Lafourche Parish when it was formed from parts of four other towns: Iberia (now Opelousas), Houma, La Grange and Islip (now New Orleans). In 1916 the parish divided into two departments – Lafourche and Ascension – which made Pineville an unincorporated community within the new departmental boundaries but still part of Lafourche Parish. However, in 1971 it regained full civil rights within Lafourche Parish by becoming an incorporated municipality separate from all other municipalities within that parish except for Lafayette proper where it continues to be listed as an unincorporated community subject to all municipal laws including school funding and zoning regulations - just like any other municipality in Lafourche Parish. Today's Pineville is located near its original location on the Red River about ten miles east of downtown Lafayette on State Highway 494A between Blakely Bridge Road crossing overriver at Arkansas Post Road forks west onto US 83W towards Thibodaux (and downstream from Old Fort Thibodaux) formerly known as Bras d'Or Lake before being renamed after General Sam Houston who donated land there in 1837 while serving as Lieutenant Governor of Texas under President Andrew Jackson; today this stretch of US 83W between Blakely Bridge Road crossing overriver at Arkansas Post Road forks west onto US 83W towards Thibodaux forms much of what used to be called "Houston Bluff". A few houses remain standing along old US 83W south side Blakely Bridge Road bridge across river northeast/southwest fork off highway just west of current day Interstate 10 exit 5 Kansas City Drive heading east outbound just past current day Ford Avenue intersection then turning southeast along present day Kavanaugh Drive which skirts main thoroughfare arriving at Main Street intersections with South Boulevard going east now crossed by I-10 north side Saint Bernard Avenue presently concurrent with Main Street crossings under I-10 south side making their way back up Kavanaugh Drive coming soon to meet their original original alignment west side once again approaching historic downtown Lafayette now known simply as "Pineville".

Pineville was founded in 1814 by French colonists as the trading post for what is now Livingston Parish. The first settlers were Baptist missionaries from North Carolina. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Mississippi River and its access to shipping and agricultural goods that passed through the area. In 1853, Pineville became the county seat of Jefferson County when it was created from parts of Rapides and Bossier Parishes. The growth of Pineville led to an increase in traffic on I-10 which caused problems for local officials who did not have enough money to maintain both roads. In 1967, Pineville voters decided to move its government from downtown to a new courthouse located on Main Street. Since then, Pineville has seen many technological advances including the creation of a fiber optic network that allows residents and businesses access to internet service free of charge; renovations of civic buildings such as City Hall and Parkland Cemetery; and expansions into adjacent parishs including St Tammany Parish and West Baton Rouge Parish
