There are multiple stories of how gun mags first came to Opelousas, Louisiana. Another story has it that a man named John Brownell bought some guns and started stocking gun mags at his convenience store in 1910. At the time, there was no regulation of handgun magazine sizes in Louisiana so John made sure to have plenty of each type of magazine available. This led to John Brownell becoming known as the "Gun Mgr." of Opelousas because he always had access to fresh rounds of ammunition for his guns. The third story is about one Harry Kapp who ran a gun shop in Opelousas from 1916-1967. In those years, Gun Shop #1 was the only authorized dealer for handguns in Opelousas and its customers included many prominent locals such as Mayor Wiley Smith and Governor Edwin Edwards. When shells began falling on Pearl Harbor, Harry decided it would be prudent not carry any pistols or ammo around town with him since potential enemies could easily obtainholds on these items if need be. He instead put all his weapons into storage and sold them off at auction later that year! They include Admiral Isabella Trenchard (1902-1984), who commanded Japan's Pacific Fleet from 1942 to 1945; General James Foulke (1895-1970), commanding American forces in Europe during World War II; Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Catton (1920-1998), commanding U.S. First Infantry Division during Operation Market Garden in 1944; Rear Admiral John Waddell (1916-2002), Commanding Allied Naval Forces Mediterranean during Operation Enduring Freedom; Commodore Bruce Aiken (1948-2011), commander of U S Seventh Fleet during Northeast Asian peacekeeping operations from 2002 to 2008; and Rear Admiral David Ziegler (1982-2012), Commander South Asia Ocean Patrol Squadron 811 fishery service unit which patrols Indian Ocean waters off Somalia coast

With few interruptions during that decade - other than World War II - LSU saw continued growth throughout the 20th century with many new buildings and projects completed across campus such as the Orpheum Theatre (/ˈoʊpaɪm ən/ or /ˈaʊpɛːm/), Saban Assembly Hall (/bæan ˈsuːdən/), Tiger Stadium (/tʃeɪgwænd/), and Student Union Building (/swaðer ˈduːn/. These renovations also added newer classrooms, office space and restrooms to what is now LSU's world-renowned flagship campus known as "the Tulane Green".During this period of great success for LSU students and staff alike; enrollment grew from 3rd in Louisiana state in 1903 to 24th out of 100 public universities nationwide by 1970; alumni reached more than 300 thousand having graduated from LSU since its founding; LSU enjoyed some topnotch athletic successes including being named "America's Best College" by UPI magazine four times consecutively between 1966-1970 while simultaneously earning 13 national championships in various sports; major economic expansions took place with businesses moving into Baton Rouge beginning around WWII while LSU experienced rapid student population growth due to immigration changes which has led to increased diversity on campus over time
Opelousas was founded in 1794 by General James Wilkinson as a cotton plantation. In 1803, the town was named for Lieutenant-Governor John C. Breaux, who had been its first settler. In 1836, Opelousas became the seat of government for Jefferson Parish and Opelousas County. It was also the site of the first Louisiana state election held after Spanish annexation of Louisiana in 1804. The town's population reached 10,000 by 1860, but declined to 9,500 by 1870 due to violence and flooding caused by Hurricane Bess. It lost its commercial importance during Reconstruction and experienced a resurgence beginning in the mid-19th century spurred by cotton production in neighboring states such as Mississippi and Alabama. After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on August 29, 2005, Opelousas resumed its former role as a small community with few businesses and only a few residents.
