During this time, other companies followed First National Armory into Ammo Manufacturing Industry: Gadsden Arsenal produced rifle cartridges from 1852 through 1861; WestinghouseArsenal began producing handguns in 1865; Colt Firearms produced revolvers starting in 1875; Winchester Repeating Arms Company began producing shotguns starting in 1887; Browning Arms Company became a partner with Winchester Repeating Arms Company beginning in 1889; Remington Arms Company became a partner with Browning Arms Company beginning in 1899. Today, Opelousas is home to numerous munitions manufacturers including Hillman Ammunition Corporation (HALC), Alliant Techsystems Inc., BAE Systems Land & Air Defense Division (BAE-Land & Air) Inc., Raytheon Co., ATK Missile Solutions LLC., Ruger Sporting Goods Corp., Parker Hannifin Corp., Noveske Castparts Corporation and FN Herstal SA..
