In 2007, PEC entered into an agreement to sell its operations to Belden Electronic Corp.(BELDEN) for $2 billion.

The French founded New Orleans in 1718 as La Nouvelle-Orléans, named for King Louis XV's choice for his new capital—the then Spanish bucolic town Orléans on the banks of the Mississippi River—despite objections from Villefranche, then part of what would become Louisiana. The first European to visit New Orleans was Portuguese explorer Gaspar de Lemos on November 5, 1605. He landed near what is now Jefferson Parish on Mobile Bayou and set up his own trading post there before returning to Brazil two years later. In 1682, English navigator John Smith discovered Baton Rouge (then just a small island) off Mobile Bayou and named it Nouvelle Angoulême after France's ANGOULÊME province west of Paris; this led to confusion among mapmakers as different parts of France were represented by different names on various charts. British Captain James Cook renamed it Baton Rouge again in 1791 when he discovered that both L'Ouest et le Nord (the East and West Coasts), which included Acadia (now Nova Scotia), were part of Canada under British rule at that time;[4] henceforth every French name excepting Quebec City was anglicized before becoming part of Canada proper. In 1804–5 Samuel Morse sent three rods ashore from HMS Beagle containing evidence that California had once been inhabited by Native Americans living near San Francisco Bay;[5][6] this inspired American explorer James Kenedy to explore what became known as Lower Texas along modern day I-10 four years later but no settlement occurred until 1821 when Spain ceded Florida to United States following their war with Britain over control over Florida's sugarcane industry
