Bullets have been a part of American history for as long as there have been people in America. Bullet holes in buildings, battlefields and other places where bullets have struck are all reminders of the past. Bullets also play a big role in our present day society and economy. In New Iberia, Louisiana, bullets are still used in many ways today and their history is something to focus on. The first bullet was designed by an unknown person in 1795. It was made from lead and wood and it had no explosive power. The first gun to use bullets was built by George Washington in 1796. Bullets were so important that they were added to the United States Constitution as Article III, Section 2nd Amendment “that every citizen shall be entitled to bear arms … excepting members of Congress or the militia’’ (Commonwealth of Virginia v. Butler (1796)). In 1876, New Iberia became a city under the terms of the Louisiana Purchase from France. At this time, bullets were still quite new and not known very well outside of Louisiana proper. On July 4th 1876, Mayor John Hogue issued an order authorizing citizens to fire at targets located within city limits “for sport” only (Cities & Towns v Hogue (1876)). This order represented an early example of how guns would play a major role in American life going forward. On October 26th 1899, President McKinley signed into law The National Firearms Act which created! The National Rifle Association which continues to exist today as one of the most powerful lobbies on Capitol Hill! bullets continued being used throughout much of World War II with some exceptions such as D-Day Normandy when grenades were used instead! In 1955, President Dwight Eisenhower passed Executive Order 12371 which created what is now known as FBI Pistol Qualification Standards for Pistol Officers! This ordinance required that all pistol officers must complete a firearms training program before being allowed to carry any sortof firearm! An interesting tidbit about this regulation is that it was actually put into effect because NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer had convinced Eisenhower that having more firearms available would help reduce crime rates!! It wasn’t until 1968 that handguns began becoming fully regulated under Title 9US Code Section 823A et al!. This law mandated annual safety inspections by federal agents upon purchase or rental/lease thereof!! Recall during this era many criminals would go undetected because they didn’t know how dangerous it would be for them to stick around after buying a handgun!!! rifles continued being used primarily for hunting although there has been increasing demand from mass shooters over recent years!

By 1840, New Iberia had become a prosperous community with a population of around 10,000 people. It experienced significant growth during Reconstruction period following the American Civil War. Afterward, it experienced rapid decline starting in the 1870s due to economic factors including dwindling trade opportunities and social unrest. In response to this trend, New Iberia began to attract migrants from throughout southwest Louisiana during the mid-19th century which helped revive its economy. However, by 1920, it had lost all its commercial significance and had only about 4500 residents remaining.

New Iberia, Louisiana is a small town in the parish of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge-Metairie Metropolitan Statistical Area. New Iberia was founded by French colonists in 1719 and became a city in 1871. New Iberia is located on the banks of the Mississippi River near its mouth on Lake Pontchartrain. The first European to explore what is now New Iberia was Captain John Byng who sailed upriver from Baton Rouge Bay on October 4, 1719 in search of an unknown landmass that he named "New France". He discovered a large bay and named it after his home country: Jeannette de la Nouvelle-Iberie (later renamed Orleans). In 1821, General James K. Polk ordered Colonel Richard Mclntyre to establish Fort Polk along with artillery batteries to protect navigation on the Mississippi River near modern day New Orleans. The fortifications were completed in 1825 but never used because Napoleon Bonaparte's army defeated American forces at Battle of New Orleans two months later. In 1827, new settlers arrived from Alabama through Arkansas and started trading goods with traders living along the river including Pierre Dorion which led to development of what is now downtown New Iberia. In 1830 Judge Augustus Allen donated land east of Main Street for a public square where commercial activities could take place; this area still bears his name today - Allen Square - as well as several other streets such as State Street and Broadwalk Avenue. After years of growth and infrastructure improvements by both private enterprise and government entities over time much of downtown has been demolished or replaced by high-rise buildings or shopping malls while some historic residential neighborhoods have survived intact into the 21st century like Garden District/Homespun Row which straddles Royal Road just west of Main Street between Ninth Avenue South & Tenth Avenue North; these neighborhoods are also known collectively as Old Town since most residents began clustering around their homes during Reconstruction following World War II In 1837 Governor Claiborne Pell announced plans for a steamboat landing on Lake Pontchartrain opposite present day Downtown New Iberia so that passengers could disembark at what would eventually become Jacksonville Landing although there had been no recorded use or plan for such an event until about 1840 when paddleboats being built at Mobile Harbor began servicing Jacksonport across open water from Point White (now Marine Corps Pier) beginning ferrying passengers back&forth across Lake Pontchartrain between Mobile &Jacksonville occasionally augmenting passenger traffic on riverboats running parallel to shore past points L&R docked beside various warehouses early 19th century before terminating ashore at various locations near contemporary Naval Station Jefferson City Missouri circa 1800s - all without ever reaching dry land! New Iberia was founded in 1802 by Captain James Fenton, who named it for Iberia Parish, Spain. The town was originally a small settlement on the banks of the Mississippi River. In 1830, New Iberia became the capital of Louisiana and began to grow as a commercial center. It became an important port for shipping goods between New Orleans and Texas and also served as a gathering point for Native American communities living in the area. In 1845, New Iberia become the capital of Louisiana again when Jackson moved from Vicksburg to take up his new position. The city experienced significant growth during Reconstruction period (1865-1868), which saw much political activity and social change in New Iberia. After Reconstruction ended, New Iberia experienced consistent economic decline until its incorporation into the United States in 1898.
