Gun targets have been a part of American history for many years. Natchitoches, Louisiana was one of the first communities in the United States to start using gun targets as a form of entertainment. The use of gun targets began in 1853 when Captain James A. Cook decided to commemorate his anniversary by giving a public exhibition at Fort Chartres. Cook's target was made out of pine and had an iron cross on it. In 1865, General Nathan Bedford Forrest started playing around with the idea of having target ranges in his community. He wanted people to be able to shoot at things that were not human beings and so he came up with the idea of creating dummy human heads from wood and then painting them black with white highlights. This became known as Gun Towing Range #1 because it was where Forrest first got into Target shooting. The popularity of target shooting soon spread throughout America and by 1870, there were over 100 Gun Towing Ranges across the country! In 1978, Gun Towing Range #3 was built in Natchitoches, Louisiana and remains one of the most popular target ranges in America today!

The first gun target in Natchitoches was a courthouse tower in 1855. In 1865, a blacksmith shop was also established in the town. In 1867, a rifle range and cannon were added to the town square. In 1881, an armory and artillery battery were built on State Street. In 1886, the post office moved from its original building on Market Square to what is now the library. On February 14, 1893, Confederate General Pemberton's army arrived in Natchitoches after leaving Baton Rouge and marching through our city. The town erupted into applause as they passed by on their way back to Baton Rouge. They brought with them cannons and rifles that had been stored at the arsenal since 1861!

Natchitoches and his family who were destroyed by Union forces during the American Civil War. After the war, General Natchitoches moved his family to this small town to help rebuild it and founded the first bank in what is now Natchitoches. The town has grown since then and now includes a shopping center, high school, two churches (oneMethodist, one Catholic), several businesses including a bank and a grocery store. In addition to its attractions such as its rich history and natural beauty, Natchitocches also offers an excellent dining experience with many restaurants serving up local fare as well as international cuisine.

The town of Natchitoches, Louisiana is located in the southeastern corner of the state of Louisiana. The population was 9,627 at the 2010 census. It is a small community located on the banks of the Mississippi River about 25 miles east of Lafayette and 15 miles west of Jackson. The name Natchitoches comes from an Indian word meaning "place where buffalo grazed." The first white settlers in what is now Natchitoches were traders and fur trappers who came to this area in 1803. They named their new settlement after their captain, Nicholas-Jacques de Lacrosse, who had been sent by General Andrew Jackson to explore this region for new land grants. Natchitoches was established as a trade post on the riverbank near present day La Salle University. In 1806, Colonel John Smith built a ferry across the river and named it Smith Ferry Landing after his friend Colonel James Smith, commanding officer at Fort Moultrie on Mobile Bayou. A wharf was built just north of present day State High School and later became known as Pointe Aux Boeufs (Beef Point). The first store opened in Natchitoches in 1807 when Jno. Gourley opened a store here with two horses and six sacks of flour valued at $5 each. In 1815 Thomas Hudspeth set up a tannery here along with his brother John Hudspeth also notable for their involvement in shipbuilding operations on Mobile Bayou during that time period. David Hogg operated a grocery store opposite French Baptist Church from 1848 until 1865 when it closed due to competition from larger stores within the town limits In 1890 Samuel McGee started an ice cream business which prospered until it burned down in 1908 . This event served as inspiration for McGee's later establishment of McGee's Candy Store which still stands today on I-10 just south of downtown . Another major factor responsible for growth within Natchitoches during this time period was railroad construction which increased commerce along both side streets leading into town center . By 1870 there were over twenty stores operating within town limits with five general stores alone accounting for over one hundred jobs per store! In 1905 Drury sold lumberyards adjoining present day State High School to James Ewing who continued to operate them until 1911 when they merged into Deering Lumber Company . After World War II things began to change rapidly within Natchitocches as many residents left for rural areas due to joblessness or technological advances such as television production facilities located nearby . However , since 1986 local businesses have been backstrongly supporting local cultural events including music festivals throughout summer months and various art shows throughout winter months
