The town of Natchitoches was founded on the banks of the Mississippi River and was at the junction of two major trails that linked Missouri with Texas. One trail led east and the other west. Gunsmiths in Natchitoches created many different types of firearms over the years, including shotguns, rifles, pistols and cannons. The early rifle guns were made from solid oakum-tapered barrels that were bored out to a round shape. These guns were used to kill game such as deer or hogs. Rifle guns became more common in North America after they were introduced into Mexico City during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In order to obtain weapons for our troops, American manufacturers began producing repeating rifles which fired rounds that could be reloaded multiple times per minute. This new type of weapon was called an “automatic” rifle and it became popular among military personnel because it allowed them to engage enemy soldiers without having to take time to aim. While automatic rifles remained a favorite among military personnel throughout World War I (1914-1918), their use declined after World War I due to advances in machineguns and artillery which could fire rounds at high speeds without stopping or reloading. However, automatic rifle guns continued to be produced until about 1950 when they became largely replaced by handgun calibers such as .45 ACP and 9mm Parabellum ammunition. During this time period, gunmakers also started making pistol caliber weapons such as revolvers carbines, semiautomatic pistols and submachineguns which functioned like rifles but lacked the power or range of some automatic rifles. Natchitoches, Louisiana is a small town located in the parish of Rapides, in south central Louisiana. The population was 1,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a Native American village on the banks of the current river which flowed through what is now Natchitoches Parish. The site for their village was choice because it had low hills and few trees so that they could build their homes without being seen by others, and also because it would be difficult for them to defend if attacked by other tribes who might traverse the area. There were three villages in this area: Iota (now Jena), Atwater, and Natchitoches. In 1763, Captain James Cook explored Great Lakes region and passed through Natchitoches parish on his way to London. He noted that there was "a very high wooded Hill near our Village" but he did not provide any information about it or its inhabitants. In 1802, Nicholas-Jacques Rousseau journeyed through this area when he worked as an agent for General Lamarque during his expedition to explore Louisiana Purchase land north of Mobile Bay. His journal mentions passing through "a pretty small creek called Pascagoula", which likely refers to the present day Pascagoula River which flows through Natchitocches Parish into Mobile County just east of Interstate 10 (the same route that Ulysses S Grant traveled when he first invaded Mexico). A post office was established at Natchitoches in 1837 by order of President Andrew Johnson under Act No 697 of 1837. The name change from Muskogee Post Office to Muskogeeville Post Office on October 15, 1865 due to difficulties with both names being used simultaneously within Muskogee County. The first store opened at Natchitoches in 1840 and soon became known as “The Store” due to its location near where later schools would be built including one founded by Reverend John Capps called “New Zion” on Decatur Street across from today’s Baptist church Built between 1830-1850 A cotton gin started operations here in 1853 followed by a flour mill around 1870 before becoming known as simply “The Mill” until discontinued circa 1940 When electric lights arrived hereabouts early 1900s new business owners got creative with names like “Pineapple House” etc., however most all eventually closed down over time Natchitoches has been home to many notable people throughout its history such as Judge Royce Lamberth (1932-2006) who presided over local criminal trials; Drayton Ferguson (born 1959) an upstanding physician; Nathaniel Banks III (born 1984), a professional wrestler who currently wrestles under the ring name enhancement debuting September 8th 2011 at Deep South Wrestling promotion event held at Gulfshore Coliseum; Rufus Sewell IV (born 1944), Jr., a United States District Court judge who presides over 12 different districts across four states; Bobby Cannavale(b 1983) owner/operator/promoter/manager of several venues including Best Western Plus Century Center Superdome XIII - Baton Rouge LA & Hilton Coliseum - Shreveport LA; Rev John Capps founder Old Zion Baptist Church since 1830 Additionally many prominent citizens have been buried here such as Judge Royce Lamberth's wife Lurleen Brownfield Lamberth (1932-2006), stepfather Cotton Mather Faulkner IV Sr.(1925-2008), mother Martha Louise Faulkner(1912-1992), father Joseph William Faulkner(1884-1966).

In 1871, Lieutenant General Sir John French issued a report titled “ recommendations for improvement in armament” which outlined his plans for future warfare. One of the proposals included the development of muzzleloaders which would allow cannons to be fired automatically without having to reloading every time. This idea was soon implemented into British army artillery and became known as Automatic Weapons (AW). By 1903, automatic weapons had become a common part of armies around the world and were used in wars such as World War I and World War II. During these conflicts, they played an important role in changing Warfare by allowing commanders quicker access to accurate fire against difficult targets

This location offered convenient access to supplies and troops needed during his campaigns against Native Americans in central America. In order to provide security for these operations, General Jackson ordered Major James Ketchum to build a fort at Natchitoche Landing on Lake Pontchartrain north of Baton Rouge. Ketchum's fortifications were designed primarily to protect local traders from attack by indigenous tribesmen living near or within reach of their assets. Following Jackson's victory over Native American forces at New Madrid Bridge on November 3, 1812 (the Battle of New Madrid), General Harrison Gibbons ordered construction of another fortification at Natchitocches Landing on October 15th following recommendations from his Army Commander-in-Chief Alan Armstrong Howe. That same year saw also saw members from various European nations converge upon Baton Rouge for what would become known as La Fin du Monde Exhibition (The End Of The World Exhibition). Many businesses and individuals participated in this large undertaking which had far-reaching consequences for both locals and visitors alike. Over 1 million people visited Baton Rouge between October 15th and December 5th 1812! On September 25th1815 two cannons were fired into adjacent cypress trees along Main Street in commemoration of Mississippian general Tecumseh’s death at Chickamauga Creek while fighting under Ulysses S Grant’s command some two years earlier - marking perhaps oneofnatchets most noteworthy events during its history!
