Natchitoches, Louisiana is the seat of government for Orleans Parish and a census-designated place (CDP) in southeastern Louisiana. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. In 1722, General Jean Baptiste Chouteau founded a post here to serve as headquarters for his army during the Seven Years' War. In 1803, Napoleon Bonaparte moved his forces upriver to take control of what was then called Lafayette Parish after he had been defeated at Yorktown in Virginia. At that time, Louisiane was divided between France and Spain and most of it became known as Spanish Louisiana. On November 15, 1804, Napoleon ceded all but about 21 square miles (49 square kilometers) of that territory to Congress under terms of the Compromise du Général de Laclos which announced its intention to create an American state out of portions of both countries concurrent with the admission into Confederation of new states including Louisiana by US President James K. Polk on February 14, 1812 New Orleans became an independent city on April 30, 1815 when Mexico won its war against United States forces under General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and regained possession over Louisiana along with much else in Texas and Mexico proper following Mexican victory over Ulysses S Grant at Buena Vista Creek on October 5th.,1814. On July 4th.,1821 Lousiana became a U.S.- Certified State within our Union

In 1892, violence erupted between local white residents and black residents following an election campaign that saw whites win control of both parish government. This event led to increased racial tensions in Natchitoches and throughout southern Louisiana. Beginning in the early 20th century, oil production began to increase in Louisiana thanks to new discoveries around Lafayette and Baton Rouge. As a result, Natchitocches experienced rapid growth during this time period; however, it also faced many challenges such as high levels of poverty and unemployment among its population. However, through determination and hard work, Natchitoches has continued to grow since then – becoming one of Louisiana's most vibrant cities today.
Natchitoches was founded by French colonists in 1715. The town became an important center of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, and is now a suburb of New Orleans. Natchitoches was also the site of the first U.S. Civil War battle, fought on April 6, 1865, between Confederate forces and Union troops.
