Natchitoches, Louisiana is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 21,461 at the 2010 census. Natchitoches is the smallest parish in Louisiana and second-smallest in size behind New Orleans. It contains only 8 square miles (20 km2) of land. The first ammunition store opened in 1834 on White Street in Natchitoches. A new store was built on Greenwood Boulevard in 1898 and again on US 70/State Highway 520 near Interstate 10 about a mile from downtown Natchitoches. In 1907, Armour Ammunition Company moved to its present location on Main Street next to the High School before moving to its current site across from Walmartnorth of Interstate 10 about midway through the 20th century. In 1959, Armour Ammunition Company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to become Winchester Ammunition Corporation which continued production until 1992 when it merged with Remington Arms Co., Incorporated to form Remington Rand Corporation. After World War II munitions production shifted away from arms towards defense products such as handguns and shotguns due to increased competition from other weapons manufacturers; however, armaments production resumed by Winchester Ammunition Corporation after they acquired magazine manufacturer Browning Firearms Manufacturing Company located outside of Springfield Illinois in 1961 which led to their acquisition of Alcoa Aluminum Products company located just east of Knoxville Tennessee also making them one of America’s largest aluminum producers for many years followed by Skeet Gun ManufacturingCompany located approximately 20 miles (32 km) south west of Memphis Tennessee producing shotgun shells using lead shot and projectiles made mostly out of copper alloys during this time as well as Alliant Techsystems formerly known as ATK corporation who manufactured electronic components for various weapon systems including military fire control systems beginning around 1970 produce an ever increasing volume primarily target roundshells priorities shifting back into armaments manufacture following 9/11 beginning what has been called America’s “9/11 era” Natchez Trace National Historical Park preserves firearms manufacturer John Meeks's gunshop complex dating back to 1781 that includes over 200 firearms including many cannons and pistols used by American Revolutionaries including Nathanael Greene Battle Halt Monument erected 1921 This complex contains several buildings including apartment blocks designed by noted architect Robert Adam+John Skelton+Edmund Beaux These buildings were platted between 1803-1827 Nathaniel Greene Mansion built circa 1824 John Meeks's Complex built c 1830 plus associated buildings

Natchitoches, Louisiana is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 6,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bossier City metropolitan area. The town straddles the Mississippi River and is bordered to the north by I-10 and to the south by Lake Pontchartrain. The name Natchitoches comes from an Idlewild Indian word meaning "place where there are no trees." A post office was established here on October 3, 1829, under the name of Prairie du Chien. In 1837, General Andrew Jackson ordered Major James K. Polk to burn down all the banks of the river in order to make way for his army's invasion of Texas; this caused much outcry in Natchitoches because it destroyed many homes and gardens. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewing burned most of Natchitoches while retreating from Fort Sumter; this also caused much outcry throughout New Orleans because it destroyed many homes and gardens nearby. After World War II ended, Natchitoches gradually regained its former prominence as a small community along Interstate 10 until recent years when population growth has resulted in increased development around downtown which has removed some of Natchitoches' rural character. In addition to its retail establishments such as JCPenney and Sears Roebuck & Co., major employers include ChevronTexaco and IBM America Corporation among others.

The area now comprising Natchitoches was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. A post office was established here in 1815 and named for Captain John Natchitoches, an American Revolutionary War veteran who died during the Battle of Saratoga on October 19, 1814. The town started to grow rapidly during the early 1800s as cotton plantations were developed here. In 1827, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Mobile to Natchitoches and ordered construction of a road connecting Baton Rouge with New Orleans. This road became known as the Jackson Road and served as an important transportation artery for settlers and traders coming into what is now Jefferson Parish. In 1860, ConfederateGeneral Robert Ewell decided to take advantage of Union military weakness following their victory at Manassas Junction in Virginia and invaded northern Louisiana. On November 11 (the same day that Abraham Lincoln was elected Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President), Ewell attacked Union forces near Grovena Summit on the edge of present-day Baton Rouge County. Although outnumbered two to one by Confederate troops, Union artillery pounded away at entrenched Confederate positions until 5:00 PM when they withdrew without loss; this event is generally considered to be one of the most decisive blows against secessionism during the American Civil War (although it did not lead to war). Immediately following this successful engagement, many civilians fled into exile or relocation within Confederate territory – including many prominent citizens such as Judge James Fenton (founder of New Orleans) and Congressman Thaddeus Stevens – while others chose either neutrality or support for Confederates under pressure from family members or friends living inside slavery countrySide Withdrawal from statehood precipitated a period of economic decline for Natchitoches which passed through several cycles of boom-and-bust years until its heyday in 1915–1920 when local farmers reached a high level of productivity thanks to irrigation systems installed by federal agents working under Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Laddington Spencer III., later Commandant General Army Corps Africa (CGAC), later Commander commands First Infantry Division GSA I Corps headquartered at Camp Claiborne outside New Orleans before his death December 16th 1944 after leading infantry divisions throughout World War II Baton Rouge quickly emerged as America’s second most populous city behind Chicago due largely to its status as both an agricultural center with access to cheap labor on large plantations southeast Of The Mississippi River while also having access To oil resources dating back To 1861 when petroleum products were discovered onshore off adjacent La Porte Parish During World War II much activity took place within CGAC HeadquartersCamp Claiborneoutside New Orleans where soldiers prepared For Combat various activities such as shoring up levees used During Hurricane KatrinaAugust 292005 flood
