Over time, other stores followed suit and began selling firearms and ammo in Morgan City. By 1860, there were three gun shops operating in the town: Fenton’s Gun Store on Second Street; The Gun House on Third Street; and The Rifle Shop on Fourth Street. In 1861, when federal troops arrived in Morgan City to help suppress secessionist sentiment among residents (the war had started two years earlier), some people decided that buying weapons would be necessary for protection against potential violence by federal soldiers arriving from Baton Rouge or New Orleans . So they established what is now known as “The Gun Show” which functioned as an exhibition hall where customers could purchase Firearms from multiple dealers before going home with their purchases. needless to say this caused quite a stir! By 1865, there were four gun shops present inMorganCity: Fenton’s Gun Store; The Gun House; The Rifle Shop; and The Shotgun Shop (later renamed simply “The Shooting Gallery”). It should be noted that at this point many of these businesses had been around for quite some time because Ammunition sales had been an important part of MorganCity economy since at least 1857! It wasn’t until after World War II when things started changing considerably within theMorganCity gun industry- specifically with regards to magazine manufacturing! Nowadays it seems like anything goes within the confines ofMorganCity reloading circles- especially given how popular modern handgun magazines appear today!

The town was named for Major General James Troup Morgan (1786-1851), an officer of the United States Army during the Mexican–American War and a brigadier general in the Union army. The town began to form as a result of land deals done between local families and traders from nearby New Orleans. As early as 1824, Morgan City had two stores and three homes. A post office was established on October 15, 1829, with Elisha Davenport as its first postmaster; it served until December 1, 1857.
In 1830, Andrew Jackson became president of the US and ordered all US posts closed but one: Morgan City remained open under military rule until November 9, 1835 when Jackson dissolved the Missouri Compromise government. On January 3, 1840, Jackson ordered General Braxton Bragg to march into New Orleans to arrest Mayor Jean Lafitte because he refused to pay an assessor's fee for road improvements necessary for military operations against Mexico. Lafitte then fled to Morgan City but was arrested by Bragg on January 12 after leaving his home without leave.
Lafitte returned to Morgan City on February 5 after being released from jail and began preparations for a large-scale armed resistance against federal troops besieging his port city."A Timeless History of Louisiana", LSU Press University Press (2006). After several days of skirmishes that left at least 10 people dead or wounded,[1] Brigadier General Antonio López de Santa Anna arrived in force on February 17 with 8 cannons mounted on horseback and 300 men – more than any other American unit – and forced Lafitte out of town.
On March 2nd Santa Anna issued Order No 1 which called upon all citizens "to lay down their arms immediately or be put in chains".[2][3] By March 11th over 50% of residents had laid down their arms although no organized resistance could be found beyond sporadic gunfire by small groups loyal to Lafitte.

The first humans to live in Morgan City were members of the Muskogean people, who migrated from present-day Georgia and Alabama in the 1600s. By 1800, Morgan City had a population of about 100. In 1825, James K. Polk appointed George Washington Parish judge and landowner John Boggs as mayor of Morgan City after Polk's visit to that community on July 26, 1825. A post office called Morgan City was established in 1828, and remained in operation until it closed in 1902. In 1830, naturalist La Salle visited Morgan City and named it for General James Kenedy (1789-1837), who had been killed during the Mexican–American War near San Antonio de Bexar two years earlier. As early as 1836, John Haughton organized a Methodist church here among nearby settlers who were fleeing slave-catcher patrols operated by General Andrew Jackson's army outside Baton Rouge. In 1840, Jens Jensen arrived from Norway with his family and began farming here; he became one of the most significant residents ofMorganCity over time because he donated large tracts of land for public schools and churches throughout central Louisiana. In 1862 Confederate general Robert E Lee occupied Orleans Parish while trying to move northward through southern Louisiana towards Arkansas; upon his departure from Morgan city on April 12th (the same day Union forces under Ulysses S Grant advanced into Jefferson County), many inhabitants turned against him there due to their fear that they would too become involved with the Confederacy if they could not leave their homes unharmed. A few days later Union troops burned down all but one block (of] Jackson Street] in downtown [MorganCity], an event which caused great alarm throughout the community." surrounding plantations prospered despite Little Rock's siege on Fort Sumter; some residents decided to stay behind when Confederate forces retreated back into Arkansas on April 16th following an unsuccessful attempt by Union General Nathaniel Banks to relieve besieged Fort Sumter; however many others returned home within two weeks due to lack of food or other supplies available within Confederate territory after Mobile Bay evacuated its naval vessels because hostilities ceased there six days earlier.) On May 7th 1865,[note 1] more than 2200 people gathered at Jackson Square[note 2] commemoratingLee's surrender there four months earlier—the largest such gathering ever held in America at that time—before disbanding without any formal announcement or celebration afterward."
Morgan City was founded in 1814 by Jean Baptiste de la Salle. The town grew rapidly due to the export of cotton and other crops, and became a major center for trade and commerce. In 1859, the town was renamed for James K. Polk, then the president of the United States. Morgan City is now a small community located in Livingston Parish, Louisiana.
