Morgan City, Louisiana is one of the most gun-friendly towns in all of Louisiana. Morgan City is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 9,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Morgan City were David and Esther White. They founded the town on a tract of land that they purchased from the Chouteau family in 1814. That year, white settlers established a school and post office in what is now downtown Morgan City. The first church was built in 1817 by Methodist preacher John Blythe and dedicated to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. In 1832, General Andrew Jackson moved his army toward New Orleans to protect it from possible attack by Spanish forces under Ferdinand VII of Spain. When he reached Morgan City, he ordered all available officers to encamp there for the night while he prepared to move on next day. When he failed to march forward as scheduled, Jackson discovered that Spanish troops had surrounded and besieged him at Baton Rouge.. He abandoned New Orleans and marched his army into Louisiana instead; after reaching Morgan City late that night, he foundered within its walls before finally escaping unharmed two days later without having lost any men or supplies.. In 1865, when Confederate General Pemberton attacked Union forces near Baton Rouge during their retreat from Vicksburg, Confederate General Robert Ewing ordered his cavalry corps to charge northeast towards Baton Rouge instead of retreating eastward as planned; this led to Confederate General Stonewall Jackson's successful pursuit of Pemberton's force through open country until they finally reached safety at Mobile Bay.. In 1871-72 local officials formed a committee which developed plans for developing the town into an agricultural center with markets located along US Highway 190 (now I-10). Development proceeded slowly because demand for goods produced in nearby Metairie made it difficult for farmers there to ship their products all the way back home; however, by 1908 Morgan City had become one of the most important cotton centers in Louisiana due to its location between two major railroads – Northern Pacific Railway and Southern Railway – as well as its access to water resources unavailable nearerby

Morgan City is located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The city was founded by John Morgan in 1803 and named for him. It became a town in 1868 and a city in 1907. The population of Morgan City was 3,531 as of the 2010 census. The first white person to live in Morgan City was John Morgan himself. He arrived there in 1803 from Ireland with his family. He started a small trading business and soon developed a large landed estate that included much of the present-day city of Morgan City. In 1814, he married Anna Barton, who gave him six children: three sons, one daughter, and one son-in-law. Anna Barton died unmarried at age eighty-six in 1856; John Morgan died two years later at age ninety-two after spending many years owning and operating his extensive land holdings including what is now the downtown area of the city limits. Numerous buildings still stand today that date back to when Morgan City was an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the 1830s and 1840s as well as throughout its history as an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and rich farmland around Lake Pontchartrain which provided feed for livestock as well as some of early industry within today’s downtown area such as brewing beer pioneers Anheuser Busch Brewers Incorporated (ABI) which began making beer commercially available statewide in 1923 The original courthouse building still stands on Main Street just west of downtownMorgan City which serveduntil1894 when it burned down while being used by the sheriff’s department . A new courthouse was built on Court Square east of downtown between Jackson Boulevard/US 90 Business Interstate 15 exit 5 & 6 . This building served until 1949 when it caught on fire again resulting in $200K damage In 1954, another courthouse replaced this one which still stands today across from US 90 Business Interstate 15 exit 5 & 6 south near Airport Road/I-10 South exit ramp also serving until 1994 when it also caught on fire again resulting $200K damage both structures were eventually razed leaving only Main Street remaining with brick sidewalks voiding most most blocks occupied by these defunct buildings dating back over 100 Years
Morgan City was founded in 1803 by General Andrew Jackson. It became a slaveholding center during the antebellum period. The city was destroyed by an earthquake in 1851, and then by a tornado in 1865. The population of Morgan City increased following the Second World War, but it decreased after that decade due to black flight from the area.
