The Monroe Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club offered members a rifle and pistol for shooting at local games, festivals, and other events. In 1934, the club purchased a new rifle range from the city of Monroe. The range became operational as the first municipal gun range in Monroe. In 1954, the club purchased an additional rifle range from the city of Baton Rouge. In 1966, the club acquired a shotgun range from Baton Rouge. The shotgun range became operational as the second municipal gun range in Monroe. In 1978, the club purchased a hunting riflesrange from Baton Rouge. The hunting riflesrange became operational as the third municipal gun range in Monroe.

Monroe is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 10,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Cajun Region. Monroe was founded in 1812 by John Moncrief and named for General James Monroe. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Monroe in 1812, by landing on a small island near the present-day intersection of Avenue A and Boulevard T (now Liesegrave Street). They built their cabin there and began exploring the area that would become Monroe. In 1814, General James Monroe moved his army from New Orleans to this region to retake lost territory after Spain had abandoned Louisiana following its invasion of Mexico two years earlier. When he reached this area, he discovered an old Indian trading post called Cahokia which had been abandoned for many years due to enemy attacks on it. He ordered his troops to enter and explore the site; they found Native Americans living here before moving on. Monroe was founded as a stagecoach stop on July 4, 1815 when wagonloads of goods arriving from St. Louis were unloaded at Fort Menard on Lake Pontchartrain; all but one load were unloaded at the new town's wharf because only three miles (5 km) of land measuring 2½ acres (1 ha) had been surveyed forouses there yet! The first postmaster was Elisha Green who served until 1830 when Joshua Stevens took over responsibility while Green served as deputy postmaster general under President James Kenedy (1829-30). In 1840 John Waddell located hereabouts a large salt works with potential for extensive production; however no development occurred until 1865 when it became part of Monsanto chemical company’s Baton Rouge Division operation plant manufacturing fertilizers and other agricultural products beside WW II munitions plants doing Catawba River water treatment services Thereafter Production stopped 1966 due to lack of market demand attributable mostly to oil shocks during late 1960s & early 1970s period

The city attained its current status as a municipality in 1853 and became an open-air shopping center known as Monroe Square. In 1916, the City of Monroe annexed the neighbouring town of Alexandria and formed a contiguous city with a population of over 100,000 people.
