Minden is a small town in the parish of St. Bernard inienne Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. Minden is located on the southwestern tip of Lake Pontchartrain and it has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2 km²). The first Europeans to visit Minden were the French in 1778, who built some trading posts near what is now downtown Minden. In 1806, General James K. Polk set up a military post at nearby Essibele Island after he crossed the lake from Mobile Bay into Tensas Parish on his way to become President of the United States. After American victory over Mexico in 1846, Minden became part of newly formed Orleans Parish. The post office was established at Minden in 1856 and remained open until it was discontinued by USPS on July 1, 1969; however, mindenaquadrille Cemetery continues to serve as its final destination In 1911, J.P. Morgan commissioned architect Alfred Vail to design a new courthouse for Minden which replaced an older structure that had been destroyed by fire three years earlier. The original courthouse burned down in 1916 but was rebuilt with more contemporary features and again opened for business in 1921 The present day courthouse was erected between 1932 and 1936 as part of plans for expanding Baton Rouge County beyond its current boundaries; it served as both the county seat and jail until 1959 when Baton Rouge County consolidated with New Orleans County to form Richmond Parish . Believed to be one of Louisiana's most beautiful buildings, the Courthouse Annex (now known as Judge Advocate General's Building) cost $5 million dollars to build and includes many advanced features such as air conditioning and water filtration systems which are still used today After Hurricane Katrina damage much of Minden including much of its downtown core on September 29th 2005 there were efforts made by Mayor Nagin To bring back some level activity or hope since there have been no assurances that any reconstruction will actually happen anytime soon despite pledges or promises from various government officials

Minden is a small town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Minden has a French and Creole heritage. The town was formally founded on December 21, 1827 by General John Grienke and his brother-in-law, Colonel David Dixon. Minden became an incorporated village on November 3, 1902. Minden had a post office from 1881 to 1898. The first school of commerce in America was established here in 1903 by Drs. Ira Sperry and Wm Hoggins with $1,000 from Daniel Webster and other investors including J. Prentice Hall founder Cyrus McCormick Jr.. In 1907 the Louisiana Purchase made it part of the newly formed Ulysses S. Grant Parish which included Alexandria and much ofJefferson Parish east of Interstate 10 as well as parts of St Tammany Parish west of Interstate 10 Minden's early growth can be attributed to its location on the Mississippi River floodplain that provided ample water resources for cattle raising while also providing some excellent shipping opportunities due to its inland position between Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne In 1916 Minden erected its first electric streetlights after being one of only a few municipalities in America to do so In 1927 General John Grienke donated land for what would become the present day Minden Park which contains many historical landmarks such as the Grienke House (now known as Old Blacksmith Shop), John Fenton House (now called Graney House), Masonic Lodge No 2 (now known as Redemptorist Church) and Baptist Churches No 2 & 3 . A new high school opened in 1944 with students being transported from nearby Metairie . Today there are over 200 businesses located downtown along Main Street with most having been founded since 1948 when Minden tripled its size thanks to increased trade related events hosted by both local businesses and satellite companies like WWL Radio
Minden was founded in 1819 by Pierre-Jean Lafitte and his wife, Louise de la Motte. The town became a center of slave trade after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Minden was destroyed by fire in 1865.
