Minden is a small town in the parish of Orleans in Iberia County, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,281 at the 2010 census. Minden is located on the banks of the Tensas River. The town was founded by French colonists in 1718 as "Ménidien". It became known as Minden after General Anthony Le Moyne's brigade destroyed a fort there on February 12, 1762 during his military campaign against the British under Governor William Blackmore. The town was named for General Le Moyne's brother-in-law Major Emmanuel Mindeaux who also fought in that campaign. The town was established about northeast of Baton Rouge and about southwest of New Orleans. The first post office in Minden was established on February 14, 1873. The present community hall opened on November 6, 1912. A cotton gin operated here from 1903 to 1917; it closed because of unfavorable weather conditions and low crop yields. In 1915 an oil well was drilled nearby and production began soon afterward with modest results until 1924 when large discoveries were made along both banks of the Tensas River which led to increased drilling activity and then rapid growth throughout much of Iberia Parish until World War II when oil production dwindled due to wartime rationing and competition from other sources such asekerspetroleum production near Houston Texas began to take over most American industry while many countries did not have any petroleum resources at all what so ever their entire economies were based around this type production it seems like everywhere you look there are these big rigs parked out front running all day long doing nothing but making noise your dreams come true right up until you wake up Wednesday morning and all those rigs are gone again Monday night In 1959 an interchange bridge across the Tensas River connecting Minden with east Baton Rouge replaced a ferry crossing which had been built at Jones Ferry Landing above Minden by Father Miron de la Boudreuse some years earlier This interchange bridge served primarily during off peak hours when traffic volume wasn't high enough or when larger bridges were available closer to downtown Baton Rouge

In 1836, when it was founded by Frenchmen, Minden was part of what was known as “the Lower Louisiana Territory” which stretched from present-day New Orleans to Baton Rouge and eastward to Shreveport (then called Teche). This area included all or most of what is now Rapides Parish (northwest corner), Jefferson Parish (central section including downtown), Ascension Parish (southwest corner), St Tammany Parish (east central section), Lake Charles Parish (northern section) and Plaquemines Parish (southwestern corner). At that time there were no towns or villages in this territory except two small settlements near Baton Rouge: Covington and La Salleville which were established by Spanish colonists at the same time as Minden but did not incorporation into the new county until after it voted to secede from Louisiana on November 3, 1837 under pressure from Governor Andrew Jackson* (*Census data reflect voting results at that time). During Reconstruction following reconstruction efforts organized by President Abraham Lincoln following the US Civil War ended on April 9, 1865 with Confederate victory at Appomattox Court House*, Minden residents donated land west of Canal Street for an educational institution called “Lafayette Polytechnic Institute” which opened its doors on September 12th 1870*. This institution – one of only a couple dozen such schools operating in America during Reconstruction – became one of southern Louisiana's leading institutions providing education opportunities for freed slaves while also serving as an important center for African American culture *.* In 1929*(*Minden Merchants Association Incorporation v District Judge J W Baugh*) local businessman Adolphus Busch established what would become one Of America's largest manufacturer††of automobiles**.*Busch sold his company to Henry Fordthree years later***.* busching‡† is also commemorated at I-10/ exit 44A southbound off Business Loop 610 West ***Harrison Ford Parkway & Busching Avenue intersection
