On December 8th 1907 a new post office called "Minden" was opened at what is now known as Main Street in the town center. The name of this new post office has been changed numerous times over the years including to "Minden", "Lafayette", and finally to its current spelling of "Minden". On November 3rd 1960 a small fire destroyed most of the town's business district located between Brushy Point Road and Frenchmen Boulevard. Most of Minden's original settlers came from Lafourche Parish where they had earlier established their homes. Many who lost their homes or businesses are still living in Minden today; many have built new homes in recent decades. In addition to its role as a small town center for local residents, Minden also serves as a transition point for commuters heading into New Orleans or Metairie. This location makes it an important stop for motorists travelling through both departments during rush hour traffic congestioniyahg between New Orleans and Metairie areas.
