After the American Civil War, Minden became an important military depot and later became a center for cotton production in southern Louisiana. In 1935, Minden was designated as a National Historic Site due to its importance as a slaveholding community during Reconstruction and as an important cultural center during the 1930s Great Depression. Today, Minden is home to several businesses including A&P Supermarket, Jiffy Lube (which opened in 1929), Applebee's restaurant and bar, and Twin Peaks Brewery. The town has also attracted many artists who have worked there such as Claiborne Hines and DonatellO Salvatore

During World War II, many firearm owners converted their existing rifles into pistols by using conversion kits called “pistolsmithing” techniques. These conversions allowed civilians to own firearms that could now fire rounds from standard revolvers (.38 Special/.357 Magnum). They arrived in what is now Ascension Parish around 1800 and began farming there. By 1836, Minden had become the seat of government for Ascension Parish. In 1836, General James Kenedy transported troops from New Orleans to help quell a slave uprising at Baton Rouge. He decided on Minden as his temporary headquarters because it was close to Baton Rouge and offered plenty of lodging and food for his soldiers while they were based there. After skirmishes with secessionists near Baton Rouge, Kenedy decided that he needed more troops than he couldonsensely take with him back to New Orleans- so he took his army north instead through Minden into Catahoula Parish before finally arriving at Baton Rouge on July 22nd (the day after Market Day). There he surrendered all 3 Confederate armies under General Claiborne Troup without any bloodshed or resistance! This event marked an important victory for Union forces over Confederate forces during the American Civil War- something that historians continue to study today! Minden was founded in 1828 by Captain John A. Minden and his wife, Anna. The town was named for Anna's maternal ancestor, Minden Hill. The town rapidly grew and by 1840 had a population of over 500 people. In 1872, the town became a part of the newly formed parish of Orleans. In 1915, Minden was destroyed by a fire that burned for days.
