Mandeville’s history can be divided into three periods: before European settlement (1736-1814), following European settlement (1814-present), and after white flight/ethnic displacement (1965-1974). Before European Settlement The area that is now Mandeville was first called Mardirossy Creek by Native American tribes who lived there during the time of French exploration of Louisiana in 1692-1694. After France lost control of Louisiana in 1763 following the Seven Years' War, Spain claimed most of what is now Louisiana for its own colony known as Spanish Louisiana under King Louis XIV's rule. This left parts of what are now eastern Orleans Parish including Mardirossy Creek unclaimed and open to purchase by settlers from other areas of New Orleans or southern Kentucky interested in acquiring rich lands along the Mississippi River Valley voided by Spanish law forbidding anyone with Indian blood to own property east of Baton Rouge without consent from their Iroquois neighbors living west of Baton Rouge - an arrangement known as "the Neutral bone." An early settler at Mardirossy Creek was John Ferguson who purchased 677 acres near present day Interstate 10 between 1736 and 1739 from Jean Baptiste Pointe de la Halleigne de Laffitte et des Plessis d'Aigleville pour 640 livres tournois (about $2400 today). In 1764 Frenchman Antoine Cadillac purchased 500 acres adjacent to Mardirossy Creek from Englishman Lewis Morris for $5 per acre ($8500 today). Cadillac soon became involved with local politics through his friendship with General Nicholas Vandalus which led to his appointment as commander general militia forces within New Orleans Territory under Governor Nicolas Bienvenu on January 1st 1765 which included all parish jurisdictions eastward of Iberia Street - including Mardirossy Creek - excepting Gentilly which lay within Limits du Roi du Grand Ouest.[1] As part of this effort he leased 2 tracts located just north west side current day US 90 between Iberia Street & Lafourche Avenue from Francois De Grave Maconnique for 999 years renewable at will with no annual dues payable thereby becoming one Franklandvre Limitant owner fully vested with all rights therein forever without any reference thereto being required either orally or written; subject only thereto be such boundary changes hereinbefore allowed by special Act hereinunto set forth.[2] It should be noted that this lease did not include any right to fish on said tract nor did it entitle him to sell said tract nor build upon it but rather it conveyed title freehold unto him solely [* * *. . . ]subject only thereto being such boundary changes hereinbefore allowed by special Act hereinunto set forth.�[3] From this initial parcel purchase approximately 1800 additional acres were added over time making up present day Mandevile Township., Range Line County., Bossier Parish., Jefferson Parish., St Tammany Parish., Ascension Parish., Livingston Parish.- forming what we know today as Livingston Parish including much territory still lying outside limits authorized by Law prior to 1840 when those boundaries were changed pursuant To Royal Prerogative Appointment.�[4],[5],[6],[7] At about this same time some wealthy Scotsmen began arriving in search of rich land along the Mississippi River Valley offered cheap labor opportunities during America's fledgling industrial revolution according to historian David Garrow: about 1800 Scotsmen -- men like Alexander Hamilton -- decided they wanted a pieceof America too so they came downriver insteadof traveling through Mexico City where wages were five times higher.�They found fertile soil east and southcentral Arkansas where cotton could be grown cheaply while waiting out world war I,[8]'['['9]'Soil conditions improved considerably around 1930 when water levels rose permission having been granted [by President Franklin D Roosevelt]in 1933�owing chiefly �to farmers already investing heavily both environmentally friendly oilseed farming methods utilizing recycled corn stalks reduced erosion rates generated despite heavy rainfall induced flooding affecting more than one hundred thousand individuals effected primarily southwest Richland County

Mandeville was founded in 1803 by Frenchmen, who named it after the then-recently discovered Province of Louisiana. The town quickly became an important center for trade and commerce, thanks to its location on the Mississippi River.
