Mandeville, Louisiana is a small town located in Webster Parish, Louisiana. The population was 1,424 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1824 by Frenchmen who were looking for land to settle after their expulsion from Canada. Mandeville is named for François-René Mandeville, an early settler and mayor of Baton Rouge. The town was originally called "Natchez" because its founders had come from that city in Mississippi. In 1827, the name was changed to "Mandeville" after René-Jacques Mandeville, a nobleman and member of the Legislative Assembly of Louisiana. In 1840, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from New Orleans to Mandeville following the Battle of New Orleans during the American Civil War. The town became a military post during World War I and II because it served as a stopping point on both sides ofthe road between points north and south of Baton Rouge. After Hurricane Katrina struck southern Louisiana on August 29th 2006, many businesses closed or evacuated their locations due to lack of power or water availability. Many residents chose not to return until repaired infrastructure could be made available

Mandeville is a town in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The region around Mandeville has been inhabited by Cajuns for centuries and their language remains an important part of the cultural heritage of what is now Jefferson Parish. Mandeville was founded in 1810 on land that had been purchased from the French by General James K. Polk while he was commanding a group of American forces during the Mexican-American War. At its peak in 1930, Mandeville had a population of 20,519 people. Today, it has a population of 817 and it is considered to be one of the poorest towns in Louisiana because its unemployment rate exceeds 50%. The town's name comes from Nicholas de Mandeville (1635-1715), an author who lived and wrote in France during the time period that included much ofwhat is today Jefferson Parish. In 1698 he published A Vindication of Honorable Life among Noble Friends which became an instant classic and served as both a political manifesto against arbitrary government power as well as an early guide to personal morality for young men living under English rule at home with few opportunities for self-improvement outside those limited circles set for them by their families and elders.
In 1803, the area that is now Mandeville was part of the Spanish colony of Louisiana. When France regained its independence in 1792, they began to explore and trade in this area. In 1805, General James K. Polk became the United States president and decided to give Louisiana back to Spain as a result of the Mexican-American War. The area that is now Mandeville was part of what is called the Spanish Empire which included much of South America. When Mexico lost it's independence in1821, most of Texas and California were added to Mexico while Louisiana stayed with Spain. The people who lived here started developing this area around 1800 because there was no real food or water available in their region. They started building homes here because it was easier than traveling long distances for food and water when there were no carts or horses allowed on these roads.
